DescriptionHounslow swords are unique to England. Dating to the Elizabethan era these swords are usually found with European blades, some from captured Spanish blades re-mounted in the Hounslow style. The curved blades were used as a hanger by troops or cutlass if used on ships. This Andrea Ferara marked blade has a saw back edge which could be used to dis member game, cut rigging or various other functions. The wood grip is covered in vellum with copper braid (now loose due to shrinkage in the wood). The attractive iron work hilt is unique to Hounslow swords of the Civil War era.
