Grease Gun has come back!

ICS M3 Submachine Gun

Ispirato dallo STEN britannico, il mitra M3 statunitense apparve a metà della seconda guerra mondiale. Era un'arma concepita per la produzione di massa ed a basso costo. La qualità ed i procedimenti costruttivi erano comunque più elevati dell'arma inglese, e richiedevano impianti industriali.

Prodotto in due versioni principali, la M3 con leva di caricamento laterale e la M3A1 con foro di caricamento sull'otturatore, il mitra ha operato in tutti i teatri di guerra nella seconda metà del XX secolo, ed anche nelle forze armate degli Stati Uniti ha trovato utilizzo almeno sino alla fine degli scorsi anni '80.

L'arma è stata soprannominata Grease Gun, per la forma che ricorda un ingrassatore.

Nel mondo dell'airsoft, molti anni orsono ne era stata prodotta una riproduzione funzionante a gas dalla scomparsa Hudson. Di recente vi si sono aggiunte due versioni AEG, offerte da ARES e da ICS. Questa ultima ASG è presentata nelle immagini che seguono.

Il Grease Gun della società taiuanese rappresenta una bella prova di ingegneria, poiché i progettisti sono riusciti ad alloggiare nel receiver tanto il motore ed il gear box che la batteria (ovviamente una LiPo). Di converso, nella AEG ci sono alcune concessioni al moderno che faranno storcere la bocca ai puristi. Parte della struttura è in materiale plastico, e numerose viti visibili sono del tipo a croce, inesistente sull'arma originale.

L'assieme appare robusto e con un buon effetto di realismo, certamente apprezzato dai reenactors.

Una caratteristica particolare è data dalla manetta di armamento, necessaria per arretrare il falso otturatore ed accedere alla rotella di regolazione dell'hop up. La manetta viene trattenuta da un fermo, e per sbloccarla e riportarla in avanti occorre premere sul suo perno di rotazione.

Inspired by the British STEN, the U.S. M3 submachine gun appeared in the middle of World War II. It was a weapon designed for mass and low cost production. The quality and construction procedures were still higher than the English weapon, and demanded industrial installations.
Produced in two main versions, the M3 with side loading lever and the M3A1 with a loading hole on the bolt, the gun has operated in all theaters of war in the second half of the twentieth century, and also in the armed forces of the United States it have been used at least until the end of the past 80s years.
The weapon was nicknamed the Grease Gun, due to its shape.
In the airsoft world, many years ago it was offered a GBB reproduction produced from the now ceased Hudson. Recently there are added two AEG versions offered by ARES and ICS. This last ASG is presented in the following pictures.
The taiuanese company Grease Gun represents a good engineering test, because the designers have managed to house in the receiver as much the engine and gear box that the battery (LiPo obviously). Conversely, in the AEG there are some modern concessions that will make grimace to purists.

Part of the structure is made of plastic material, and several visible screws have cross-type head, non-existent on the original weapon.
The assembly is robust and has a good effect of realism, certainly appreciated by reenactors.
A special feature is given by the bolt handle, which is necessary to retract the false bolt and access the hop up adjustment wheel. The throttle is held back by a catch, and in order to release it and pull it out again you must press on its pivot.
