Lo SVD, traducendone la denominazione militare, è il “fucile Dragunov per sniper”. 
Si tratta di un’arma a funzionamento semi-automatico, originariamente camerata per la ormai più che secolare munizione russa 7,62 x 54 R, e capace di tiri efficaci sino alla distanza di 1000 metri.
Sviluppato a partire dal 1958 per opera di un team diretto da Yevgeny Fyodorovich Dragunov, il fucile fu adottato dall’Armata Rossa nel 1963, a seguito di un concorso, ed entrò in regolare produzione l’anno successivo presso l’IZHMASH (officine meccaniche di Izhevsk), andando a sostituire progressivamente i fucili Mosin Nagant utilizzati dai reparti di tiratori scelti sovietici.
A prima vista, il Dragunov appare come un AK 47 dimagrito ed allungato: in effetti, molte parti sono esteticamente simili.
Meccanicamente, lo SVD è un’arma radicalmente differente dal fucile d’assalto a cui era destinato ad affiancarsi. Dragunov, oltre che armiere, è stato anche campione di tiro, e vanta numerosi progetti di armi sportive, ai cui concetti attinse per creare lo SVD. Sotto questo profilo, la sua controparte occidentale può essere trovata più nel successivo L96 della Accuracy International.
L’arma sovietica poteva vantare alcuni elementi distintivi e caratterizzanti, a partire dalle dimensioni, e sino alla forma particolare del calcio alleggerito, al caricatore da 10 colpi, ed al lungo spegnifiamma / compensatore a cinque luci (due emittenti verso il basso e tre verso l’alto).
Per completare lo SVD, fu studiata e realizzata anche una apposita ottica, denominata PSO-1, che va installata mediante un apposito attacco sul fianco sinistro del castello. 
Il PSO-1 ha una componente ottica 4x24, decisamente inferiore per potenza e luminosità rispetto alle prestazioni dell’arma cui è destinata, ed è dotato di illuminazione del reticolo per uso in condizioni di scarsa luminosità.
Lo SVD da allora è diventato ed è ancora oggi uno fra i più diffusi fucili per tiratori scelti; dopo la caduta del blocco sovietico, è apparso anche in numerose varianti civili, ottenendo un buon successo di vendite, a riprova di un valore non legato a fenomeni estetici od a mode passeggere. Alla sua diffusione ha contribuito anche il concetto d’impiego, che lo vedeva destinato ad essere presente in ogni plotone di fanteria come arma di supporto, anticipando il Marksman Rifle occidentale.
Da rimarcare l’evoluzione avvenuta nei legni di quest’arma. 
L’originale dotazione con calcio alleggerito, realizzata in multistrato, è stata affiancata da versioni con parti in materiale sintetico, o con disegno più convenzionale.
Dello SVD sono state realizzate numerose varianti, fra cui:
- SVDS, versione a calcio pieghevole per truppe paracadutiste
- SVU, versione accorciata prodotta per il Ministero dell’Interno russo (MVD), anche nella variante con tiro a raffica SVU-A
- SVDK, versione recente calibrata per la munizione Brenneke 9,3x64 
- SWD-M, versione ammodernata realizzata in Polonia
- TYPE 79 e TYPE 85, versione cinese, presente sul mercato civile con la designazione NDM-86. Le due varianti si distinguono per le differenti ottiche impiegate.
- FPK, versione rumena, con meccanica derivata dall’AK 47
- Medved (orso), versione per uso civile venatorio
- Tigr (Tigre), versione per uso civile venatorio
- Al-Kadesih, versione irachena

 Fra le presenze più peculiari, ed ingombranti, dei campi di gioco vi sono le repliche “sniper”. 
In realtà, questa definizione è più un omaggio al loro aspetto esterno, che alle prestazioni, del tutto analoghe per gittata alle AEG, e certamente non paragonabili a quelle degli originali a cui si ispirano.
A questa schiera già numerosa si è da poco aggiunta una produzione di A&K, marchio redivivo: uno Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova (SVD) funzionante a molla, offerto nelle due varianti di calciatura lignea e sintetica.

 Come si nota, l’offerta di AEG dedicate al fucile di precisione sovietico non è scarsa, e quasi sempre la qualità e la fedeltà sono buone... ovviamente contro un esborso di denaro non proprio lieve. Sino alla comparsa della replica oggetto di queste righe, unica offerta reperibile a basso costo era quella firmata Golden Bow, che però era un ibrido con un AK 47.
Non moltissimo tempo orsono, ai modelli elettrici se ne era affiancato uno a molla, prodotto da A2Z, una ditta coreana. Il modello, da quanto ne leggo, è ben costruito e funzionante, ed anche abbastanza costoso, visto che il prezzo da me rilevato è di 230 dollari USA sul mercato orientale.
La A&K, già operante nella Repubblica Popolare Cinese, è una fra le ditte passate attraverso il ciclone dei sequestri. La sua strategia di sopravvivenza sembra essere stata la delocalizzazione, e quindi, dopo aver annunciato il suo ritorno ai mercati qualche tempo orsono, ora sta distribuendo una prima serie di prodotti, fra cui vi è lo SVD a molla, che in alcuni siti viene descritto come “ispirato” dal modello A2Z, pur se offerto ad un prezzo inferiore di circa un terzo. 
Una doverosa premessa: il particolare esemplare oggetto di questa recensione mi è stato fornito a condizioni particolari dalla ditta FREE SHOT, ( http://www.freeshot.it/ ) che ha provveduto a renderlo conforme alle normative italiane, sostituendo la molla originale (che viene comunque fornita assieme alla replica), e compiendo alcuni altri piccoli interventi di miglioria. Le prestazioni sono quindi riferibili a questi esemplari predisposti per il mercato nazionale, con potenza inferiore ad 1 Joule.

 La confezione è ispirata al più assoluto minimalismo, consistendo in un imballaggio preformato in polistirolo, protetto da una scatola in cartone priva di scritte o marchi. All’interno trovo la replica, la molla originale, ed un foglietto con alcune indicazioni di sicurezza.
Oltre all’assenza di accessori ormai comuni come lo scovolino, manca il manuale. 
A questo è possibile rimediare visitando il sito della A&K ( http://www.akairsoft.com/ ) , dove nella sezione download è possibile scaricarlo in formato pdf (http://akairsoft.com/download/SVD.pdf ). Si tratta comunque di un opuscolo con le informazioni minime necessarie per l’uso, ed alcuni dati caratteristici sulla cui fondatezza rimango perplesso. Trovo infatti indicata una velocità del BB di 85 - 130 FPS, pari a circa 30 - 40 metri al secondo, quando il cronografo mi rivela che la molla originale porta il proiettile ad oltre 150 metri al secondo.

However, this is a booklet with the minimum information necessary for use, and some characteristic data, on the merits of which I remain perplexed.  L’aspetto generale dell’SVD è buono: a parte il calcio e l’astina, tutte le parti sono realizzate in fusione di metallo, e finite con vernice nera opaca. La sagoma ed i dettagli sono colti con buona fedeltà e nitidezza.
Ad un esame più approfondito, si notano alcune pecche nella verniciatura, e si evidenziano le impronte degli estrattori e sulle parti in plastica le bave degli alberi di fusione. Il tutto comunque lo giudico marginale, anche tenuto conto del prezzo di vendita decisamente collocabile nella budget line.
L’assemblaggio delle parti è molto buono; anche scuotendo, non sento vibrazioni fra le componenti metalliche, e riscontro solo un po’ di lasco nell’astina anteriore. Questo, paradossalmente, è un tocco realistico, in quanto deliberatamente presente anche nell’arma vera.
La vernice dopo il breve maneggio compiuto per stendere queste righe mostra qualche graffio, pur apparendo nel complesso abbastanza resistente.

 

 The general appearance of SVD is good. Apart from stock and foregrip, all the parts are made of cast metal, and finished with black paint. The shape and details are captured with good fidelity and sharpness.By a more detailed examination, you notice some flaws in the paint, and it shows the footprints of the extractors, and sprue cut on plastic. I judge all this, however, as marginal, even viewing that the sale price definitely could be placed into the budget line.
The parts assembly it is very good: even shocking, I do not feel vibrations between the metal components, and finding just a little 'slack into the fore grip. This, paradoxically, is a realistic touch, even being deliberately present on the real gun.The paint after the brief handling made to write these lines, shows a few scratches, although on the whole it seems strong enough.

 

 Entrando nel dettaglio, la calciatura in materiale plastico mi pare robusta e resistente, oltre che fedele nelle forme all’originale. Sul calcio è montato il poggiaguancia in legno, trattenuto da un fermo a leva che mi ricorda le bottiglie con tappo a pressione della mia infanzia. La copertura dell’imbottitura è realizzata in similpelle di colore marrone, sulla cui durata credo sia legittimo nutrire qualche dubbio. Per chi ha qualche esperienza di bricolage o modellismo, non sarà difficile sostituirla con dell’autentico cuoio.
Il corpo della replica è formato da un guscio esterno, e dalla meccanica interna.
Formano il guscio alcune componenti, unite fra loro da incastri e viti. Sono, nell’ordine, lo spegnifiamma, l’outer barrel col gruppo di recupero gas simulato, il receiver, la scatola del gruppo di scatto ed il calcio col poggiaguancia mobile. 
Questo credo possa creare un punto di minore resistenza fra canna e receiver, critico in caso di stress; nell’ordinario, e salvo che non si usi lo SVD di A&K come clava, la replica credo potrà compiere lunghi anni di onorato e fedele servizio.
Il coperchio del receiver, realizzato in lamiera di buono spessore, sagomata e stampata. è saldamente vincolato da un fermo a leva, anziché dal pulsante che assolve allo stesso compito sull’AK 47 e derivati.

 In detail, the plastic stock seems sturdy and durable, as well as faithful to the original forms. On it, it is mounted on the wood cheek piece, held by a latch lever which reminds me my childhood’s bottles with a pressure cap. 
The cover of the padding is made of brown fake leather, about the duration of which I think it is legitimate to entertain some doubts. For those who have some experience of crafts or models, will not be difficult to replace it with authentic leather.
The body of the replica is formed by an outer shell, and the internal mechanics.They form the outer shell some components, joined together by joints and screws.  Le mire metalliche sono simili a quelle della famiglia AK 47, come del resto accade per i comandi. Questo, nell’arma vera, permetteva che al bisogno un soldato con addestramento basico potesse utilizzare lo SVD o l’AK ritrovandovi la stessa familiare impostazione.
Il mirino anteriore, collocato su un supporto metallico, e protetto da un tunnel in lamiera, è del tipo a piolo, regolabile in alzo avvitandolo o svitandolo. Questo avviene grazie ad un apposito foro circolare sulla sommità del tunnel

L’alzo posteriore regolabile è del tipo a cursore, e replica l’originale tarato sino a 1200 metri, con incrementi di 100 metri. La tacca di mira ha profilo a V.

Mentre la correzione in alzo è possibile, rapida ed efficace, quella in derivazione è del tutto impossibile. 

 The iron sights are similar to those of the AK 47 family, as is the case for the controls. This is done in a special circular hole on top of the tunnelThe adjustable rear sight it is adjustable in elevation too, and replicates the original calibrated up to 1200 meters, in increments of 100 meters.

The rear sight has a V profile notch.While the correction in elevation is possible, fast and effective, those for derivation it is quite impossible.

 

 

 Il receiver ospita tutti i comandi efficienti della replica: manetta di armamento, leva di sicura, leva di fermo del coperchio, grilletto, leva di sgancio del caricatore.
La manetta di armamento, collegata ad un finto otturatore, non costituito dalla usuale placca in lamiera ma realizzato per fusione, è posta sul fianco destro del receiver, e scorre attraverso una apposita feritoia. Realizzata in metallo, ha una sagoma tale da renderne fastidioso l’impiego a mani nude, con la molla originale di forte potenza. 
Una molla ausiliaria trattiene e riporta la manetta ed il finto otturatore in chiusura. Apprezzo questa funzione in quanto protegge il meccanismo interno dall’ingresso di sporcizia e fango.

 The receiver contains all the efficient commands of the replica: bolt handle, safety lever, cover lock lever, trigger, magazine release lever.The bolt handle is connected to a fake bolt. Tot consisting of the usual metal plate but made by casting, it is located on the right side of the receiver, and flows through a special slot.  La leva di sicura ricorda nel funzionamento quella della famiglia AK, ma ha solo due posizioni: verso l’alto blocca lo scatto ed impedisce che il pistone, arretrato, giunga a fine corsa ingaggiando il fermo. Abbassata, consente di armare il pistone e di sparare, ed inoltre scopre la parte terminale della feritoia di armamento, aprendo quindi una sia pur piccola via per introdurre materiale o corpi estranei nel meccanismo interno. La vista del pistone, anodizzato in un vivido colore azzurro, non porta a crescere di molto l’impressione di realismo.

 Il fermo a leva del coperchio, ruotato verso il basso, permette di rimuovere quest’ultimo componente, semplicemente sollevandone l’estremità posteriore. 
Il grilletto ha forma semilunata e profilo esile, con superfici lisce.
Il ritegno del caricatore è identico a quello presente sugli AK, di cui mantiene il pregio della semplicità, ed il difetto di un possibile azionamento involontario, usando il caricatore come punto di presa per la mano debole.
Ultima nota riguardo al receiver è la presenza sul fianco sinistro del supporto a rotaia per il montaggio dell’ottica.

 Il calcio è in materiale sintetico, e mantiene la forma originale (gli SVD più recenti ne hanno una variante semplificata, od una versione priva dei fori di alleggerimento).
Sono realizzati in metallo il calciolo ed il passante per la cinghia (che è la stessa impiegata per il Kalashnikov).
La replica ha anche riprodotto fedelmente il poggiaguancia rimuovibile col suo fermo a molla, che sembra copiato pari pari da quello di una vecchia bottiglia da birra.
Ho notato che usando le mire metalliche è opportuno rimuoverlo, mentre con ottica installata aiuta a trovare la corretta posizione del capo.

 The stock is made by plastic, and retains the original form (the most recent SVD have a simplified variant, or a version without the lightening holes).The butt plate and sling swivel are made of metal ( the sling it is the same used for the Kalashnikov).Replication has also faithfully reproduced the cheek rest with his removable spring clip, which seems copied from an old beer bottle.I noticed that when using the iron sights, it should be removed, while having a scope installed, it helps you find the correct head position.

 

 

 Per accedere alla meccanica, occorre semplicemente rimuovere il coperchio del receiver. Il cilindro, il pistone, la molla con la sua guida, ed il finto otturatore si offrono alla vista in tutta la loro nuda gloria.
La molla installata ha in estensione una lunghezza di 174 millimetri ed un diametro di 14,7, ed è quindi compatibile con quelle normalmente installate sulle AEG. L’operazione di sostituzione è molto semplice.
Una volta rimosso il coperchio del receiver, basta svitare le due viti Brugola che trattengono il blocco coi due guidamolla, e sollevarlo. Attenzione, nel compiere questa manovra, poiché le molle sono in compressione, e possono schizzare via.
Una volta rimossa la molla, si può procedere alla sostituzione, oppure insistere nello smontaggio.
Salvo non si intenda apportare qualche miglioria (l’esperienza di chi mi ha venduto la replica consiglia la sostituzione dell’hop up e dell’inner barrel con una variante di precisione e di maggiore lunghezza) la scomposizione dell’AK non si rende necessaria.

Once removed the spring, you can proceed with its replacement or insist on the disassembly.Unless you intend to make some improvements (the experience of who sold me the reply recommends replacement of the hop up and inner barrel with a precision variation of greater length) the stripping of the AK is not necessary.

 

 

 

 In questo secondo caso, per rimuovere il calcio basta togliere le tre viti che lo fissano al receiver.
Si passa quindi al freno di bocca, trattenuto da un grano Brugola; allentato questo, lo si sfila dall’outer barrel.
Stessa procedura per la finta presa di gas e la maglietta anteriore della cinghia.
Un terzo grano Brugola fissa la leva di scomposizione dell’astina. Dopo averlo allentato, la leva deve essere sfilata, rendendo così liberi i semigusci che formano l’astina.
Per rimuovere l’alzo ed il suo supporto, lo si rovescia verso l’avanti, scoprendo una vite che fissa una lamina. Dopo averle tolte, si accede ad una seconda vite, ed infine si può togliere il componente.
L’assieme di inner ed outer barrel è fissato al receiver da due grani Brugola, e basta allentarli per sfilarlo.
Ancora una volta, è il solito grano brugola a fissare inner ed outer barrel.
Infine, è possibile scomporre il gruppo hop up, scoprendo che dispone di due regolazioni.
La prima è quella per l’hop up; non sorprendo nessuno dicendo che si tratta dell’ennesimo grano Brugola, che preme su un presso costituito da un cilindretto di plastica morbida, il quale a sua volta agisce sul gommino.
La seconda regolazione comprime una molla ed una sfera che trattengono il BB nella camera di tiro.
Da notare che ogni componente è dotato di riferimenti ad incastro, che aiutano ad installarlo nella corretta posizione.
Il gruppo di scatto, infine, è contenuto in una scatola metallica, e può essere rimosso estraendo il perno posto sopra il ritegno del caricatore. L’operazione non è complessa, ma il corretto reinserimento può creare qualche difficoltà. Dato che non esistono regolazioni, la rimozione dello scatto è una operazione del tutto superflua.

 

 In the latter case, to remove the stock just unscrew the three screws that secure it to the receiver.It then goes to the muzzle brake, restrained by an Allen grain; loosening this, it slips off from outer barrel.Same procedure for the fake gas outlets and the sling swivel.A third Allen grain hold the front breaking lever. After loosening it, the lever must be pulled out, thus making free the half-shells that form the foregrip.To remove the rear sight and its support, rotating it to the front will reveals a screw holding a plate. After removing it, you go to a second screw, and finally you can remove the component.
