After the review of LB Vest, let’s continue with another BlackWater product, a modular padded belt: I/O Tactical Load Bearing Belt.


La BlackWater nasce nel 1997 come azienda operante nei servizi di sorveglianza, sicurezza, protezione, etc, non solo in ambito civile ma anche e soprattutto militare: in pratica mercenari, anche se attualmente è di moda definirli " Security Contractors".
Nel corso degli anni è divenuta la maggiore società del settore e principale contractor del Dipartimento di Stato USA, reclutando nelle proprie fila ex appartenenti ai vari corpi speciali statunitensi: molti SEALs, Delta, Rangers hanno infatti lasciato il servizio poco dopo i trent'anni, l'età limite in pratica del servizio operativo, in favore di una ben piú remunerativa carriera da "Contractor".
Grazie all'esperienza operativa militare di quest'ultimi, la BlackWater ha recentemente intrapreso anche attività parallele, quali la fornitura di "Know How" mediante l'organizzazione di numerosi corsi addestrativi e di formazione, ma anche, come vedremo, la produzione e vendita di equipaggiamenti tattici ad uso privato e militare.
Si tratta quindi del primo caso di analisi delle esigenze, studio, progettazione e realizzazione di materiali in scala industriale, da parte di chi ne è anche l'utilizzatore finale.
La gamma dei prodotti commercializzati è piuttosto ristretta e riflette in pieno non solo la tipologia delle operazioni che la BlackWater tratta, ma anche l'attuale situazione internazionale in merito ai conflitti in corso e al loro modo di essere combattuti: oltre ad un Tactical Vest di forma classica a tasche fisse, come basi modulari il catalogo BlackWater offre solamente 1 Chest Rig low profile, 2 Body Armor e 1 Padded Belt, utilizzabile in abbinamento con i precedenti sistemi, e tutti nelle sole colorazioni nero e Coyote Brown.

BlackWater born in 1997 as a company operating in surveillance services, security, protection, etc also in military operations. Practically mercenaries, but actually we prefer call them “Security Contractors”.
Over the years it has become the major company on field and the first contractor of U.S. Military Dept., recruiting ex special forces operators: many SEALs, Delta, Rangers leave service soon after thirty years old to start a new well paid career as “Contractor”.
Thanks to their military experience, BlackWater recently has started parallel activities, as supplying “know how” by organizing training courses and producing tactical equipment for civilian and military use.
It’s the first example of needs analysis, research, design and large scale production of equipments by one who is also the final user.
Products range is quite short and it reflects perfectly BlackWater operations type and also the actual situation of ongoing conflicts around the world: a classic Tactical Vest with fixed pouches, a low profile modular Chest Rig, 2 modular Body Armor and 1 modular Padded Belt that can be used with previous systems; the only available colors are black and coyote brown.

After the review of LB Vest, let’s continue with another BlackWater product, a modular padded belt: I/O tactical Load Bearing Belt.

La prima cosa che notiamo differente da ogni altro cinturone di altre marche, è che le 2 file di pals non percorrono la superficie in tutta la sua interezza, ma sono divise in 3 zone, la parte centrale posteriore e le due laterali.
A prima vista potremmo essere tentati di pensare che siano solo pals in meno da poter utilizzare, ma non è così.
Guardando più attentamente notiamo che le file di pals non sono cucite direttamente sul cinturone ma su 3 pannelli cuciti sui bordi alto e basso, formando dei larghi passanti per la cinghia di regolazione che, diversamente da ogni altro oggetto simile, è esterna anziché fissata alle estremità, e libera di scorrere.
I pannelli laterali sono composti da 2 file per 4 colonne di pals, mentre quello centrale sempre da 2 file ma per 6 colonne.
Avere dei pannelli esterni con le pals consente al cinturone di aderire molto più comodamente al corpo, perché non irrigidito dalle tasche modulari fissate al suo esterno.
Il cinturone ha 4 D-Ring in metallo per agganciarvi dei suspenders come quelli in foto, 2 posizionati nella parte posteriore in corrispondenza degli angoli superiori del pannello di pals centrale e 1 in corrispondenza della prima colonna di pals di ogni pannello laterale.

The first particular we can notice between this belt and any another one of different brand, is that the 2 rows of pals don’t cover the whole length of belt, but there are 3 different areas covered by pals, a central back plate and two side plates.
It seems that we have less pals to attach our pouches, but it’s wrong.
Looking better this belt we note that the rows of pals are not sewn directly on the belt, but on 3 panels sewed on the bottom and on the top edges of the padded belt, creating large loops for the adjustment belt that unlike any other padded belt is free flowing and not fixed to the outer ends.
Side panels have 2 rows per 4 columns of pals, while the central panel has 2 rows per 6 columns.
This system make the padded belt to be well fit to the operator’s waist because it’s not made more stiff by pouches attached to its exterior.
Padded belt has 4 metal D-Rings to combine suspenders as in this photo, 2 on the back panel and 1 on the first column of each side panel.

La parte interna è molto ben imbottita, confortevole una volta indossata.
Altro particolare distintivo di questo cinturone è la sua forma sagomata, più alta nella parte posteriore, simile ai supporti lombari utilizzati in palestra come sostegno.
Questo aiuta notevolmente a ridurre il carico di lavoro della schiena, con conseguente prevenzione dell'affaticamento e dei dolori durante l'attività.

Inside is well padded, very comfortable when worn.
Another great feature of this belt is its contoured shape, higher in the back plate similar to the lumbar support used in body building activities as support.
It’s a great aid to reduce the load on the back, preventing fatigue and pains during activity.

La cinghia di regolazione è molto resistente, ma fortunatamente non rigida; la chiusura è anteriore, tramite un grosso e comodo fastex.

The adjustment belt is very strong, but not stiff; frontal closure, by a easy opening large fastex.

La cinghia in eccesso si infila dentro ai pannelli, senza che all'esterno si veda alcunché.

The excess belt slips under side panels, being well hidden.

Indossato, notiamo che l'addome è completamente sgombro, c'è solo la cinghia di regolazione.
Per la prova, il cinturone è stato agganciato a dei suspenders ammortizzati HSGI con dei pad in gel sulle spalle per renderli più comodi, sempre HSGI.

When worn we note that the front of operator’s body is clear, there is only the adjustment belt.
For the test we used HSGI suspenders with HSGI gel pads on shoulders for more comfort.

Vista posteriore, il pannello di pals più grande, adatto ad ospitare grosse tasche o un butt pack.
Ai lati possiamo vedere la parte del cinturone non coperta dai pannelli di pals che si adatta molto bene al corpo.

On the sides we can see the belt area non covered by panels that fits perfectly to the waist.

PROVA SUL CAMPO

La prova sul campo ha confermato quanto di buono ci aspettavamo ad un primo esame: il peso è ben scaricato sui fianchi, sgravando completamente le spalle.
Set Up particolarmente indicato nelle giocate brevi, ma all'occorrenza adatto a partite longeve.
La schiena completamente sgombra consente infatti di indossare comodamente uno zaino, cosa molto fastidiosa da fare con i vari vest/lbv/etc per via del doppio spallaccio.
Ovviamente occorre togliere i pad e fissare il sistema di idratazione dentro lo zaino o al suo esterno.
Le nostre conclusioni sull’oggetto sono sicuramente positive, eccezion fatta per il prezzo non proprio competitivo.
Il cinturone è disponibile in 2 taglie, small/medium e large/x-large.

TEST ON FIELD

The field test confirms our good first impression: weight of system is almost entirely supported by the hips, relieving completely the shoulders.
This Set Up is suitable for short games, but it can be made suitable for long time games.
The back is completely clear and that makes possible to wear comfortably a backpack, which is very annoying to do with standard vest/lbv/etc because of the double shoulder strap.
Obviously we have to remove shoulder pads and attach the hydration system into or external of backpack.
Our conclusions on this product are certainly positive, except for the price not really competitive.
The belt is available in two sizes, small/medium and large/x-large.
