MCR (multi-purpose chest rig) Pantac
Ormai siamo all’ennesimo prodotto Pantac recensito qui su ASC. Questa marca si è contraddistinta tra le repliche per la buona fedeltà delle sue "repliche", rispetto a materiale principalmente Eagle e London Bridge Trading (ma anche HSGI, se pensiamo al Warlord). Per chi volesse ricreare un certo setup, ripiegare su Pantac da quel buon compromesso tra spesa e qualità, sia per i materiali che per i dettagli.
This is the next Pantac product in ASC reportages. This brand proved to be one of the best in making replica of material mostly by Eagle Industries and London Bridge Trading (but also HSGI, if we think to the warlord). Buying Pantac products is a good compromise between price and quality, quality given both for detail and materials.
IL CHEST RIG, PRIME IMPRESSIONI

Ed un breve scambio di pareri ed opinioni è anche apparso sul forum.
Se la leggerete, vedrete come Pantac, al tempo, mi avesse abbastanza “deluso”, ma forse erano un po’ alte le mie aspettative.
Ma qui, ora, parliamo di un altro prodotto, migliorato in comparazione con la “vecchia produzione” di repliche Pantac.

Era da tempo che bramavo l’originale (Eagle MCR, peraltro prodotto in 1000D e 500D, oppure l’LBT 1961G), e trovare una replica che costa meno di un terzo, beh, credetemi, ero felice come un bambino.

If you read, you’ll see how Pantac deluded me somehow, but maybe I was expecting too much from a simple replica.
But now, we are talking about another type of product, improved if put in comparison with “old generation” Pantac products..

It was so long I was looking for the original one, and finding a replica that costs less than one third in Italy, well,made me so happy! Last but not least, it happened in Christmas.
…E così il pacco arrivò. Appena ho tolto dalla scatola il vest, ho iniziato a studiarlo. Spettacolo! La zip centrale riporta i marchi della ben nota YKK che produce zip, fastex per l’ambiente militare e non. Ma non solo: tutti i fastex sono ITW Nexus & UTX, come del resto dice la descrizione sul sito.
Tempo dopo, discutendo sul forum, vengo a sapere che fastex e varie probabilmente sono solo rimarchiati: a far destare il sospetto, alcuni difetti di stampaggio e la resistenza troppo scarsa dei D-Ring.
Focalizzo un attimo sul colore e…guarda guarda, non è più il vecchio coyote brown della Pantac, così scuro! E’ un colore molto vicino al coyote brown della Aites (avevo tasche in casa per fare il paragone), colorazione quindi molto più fedele all’originale.
…So the pack arrived. Once I took out the rig from the box, I began to study it. Beautiful! The central zip reports the logo of the well-known YKK that produces zips, fastex and other sistem for the military. Moreover, all fastex are ITW Nexus, just like the description on the website. Here, I was already smiling.
I’ve been told later that the buckles and zippers are probably only “marked” with UTX markings, because of some suspicious defects of the molding, not present on Eagle vests' accessories for example, and because of the ridiculous resistance of D-Rings.
I focused on the color. It’s not like the “old” Pantac coyote brown, pretty darker than the “original”. When compared with a few pouches, It looks very similar to the Aites coyote brown.
Passiamo agli spallacci.
Purtroppo hanno ancora i fastex di collegamento al rig, io personalmente li odio, ma almeno ora sono un po’ più piccoli. Lo spallaccio è studiato come l’originale, con fasce elastiche per il passaggio di cavi/antenne più un’altra fascia con chiusura a velcro, sempre con lo stesso scopo. Per il tubo del camelback o altro, ci sono anche due fettucce per spallaccio, dentro alla quale infilare tubi, cavi, etc.
Now, let’s spent a couple of lines on the H-Harness.
Sadly, there still are the fastex between them and the body of the rig, they are a little smaller at least. Actually, this does not depend on a Pantac choice, but it is a choice on the original version that has been copied. The harness is a good replica, with elastic bands that allow us to insert cables and antennas and another band with Velcro closure for the same purpose. Another two bands are sewed to the harness, to put in camelback tube, antennas, etc..
Le tasche porta caricatori, finalmente, hanno tutte la doppia chiusura velcro/fastex, ma quello è il miglioramento minore!
Intanto, i velcri sembrano più forti di quelli sul vecchio modello, inoltre, tutte le tasche sono fatte per portare due serbatoi e, quando ne togliamo uno, c’è una fascia elastica che tiene l’altro ben stabile e fermo. Ottimo!
Le piccole tasche che hanno davanti, possono ospitare GPS, bussola, ecc. purché di medie dimensioni. Se caricate il vest con calma, vedrete che potranno anche ospitare un altro caricatore, così da avere un carico massimo sul rig di 11 serbatoi per serie M4 (STANAG, o PMAG, i Thermold Diemaco probabilmente sono troppo grandi). 11, e non 12 serbatoi, perché c’è sempre la tasca dedicata a portare i caricatori per pistola. Tra l’altro, mi è stato segnalato che queste due taschine contengono molto a fatica i caricatori delle pistole e, per alcuni modelli non è proprio possibile inserirli. A questa hanno aggiunto, come sull’originale, del velcro. Non potevo non attaccarci una bella patch col "porco"!
Tutte le tasche sono senza trim, come le forniture militari Eagle; sul sito LBT, invece, vedrete i vest originali ma con il perimetro “trimmato”. Basteranno pochi utilizzi per vedere le cuciture cominciare a sfilacciarsi: il filo non è certamente dei più resistenti...
A lato, abbiamo degli inserti elastici per cyalume e simili.
All magazine pouches, finally, have both Velcro closure and fastex closure, but that’s the least!
The Velcro seems to be stronger than the one on the old model. All the pouches are made to hold two stanag magazines and, when we take out one, the other is kept stable by an elastic band. Great! In front of these we have small pouches that can hold GPS, compass, or any other item that fits, or, if we take care when setting the rig, they can hold another magazine, allowing us to transport 11 STANAG magazines (PMAG too; probably not the Thermold by Diemaco).
11 Only because one pouch is still dedicated to transport two pistol mags. I have to say that other users of the vest noticed problems with these two pistol mag pouches, these seem to be too small: putting inside the magazine will result pretty hard and not even possible with some pistols. On this pouch Velcro has been added, just like the original, allowing me to put on it a beautiful pork.
All pouches have no trim just like the military version of the rig, but just double seams. The civilian version, which photos are available on the LBT website, has trim on the perimeter. The thread chosen is not very resistant, though, and after a few games you'll notice some fraying.
On the side of the mag pouches, there are inserts for cyalume and other accessories.
Anche le utility finalmente hanno il loro fastex, permettendoci di mettere in sicurezza chiavi della macchina e portafoglio, piuttosto che qualsiasi altra cosa (cibo, pallini, etc) che sia necessario portare. Dietro a queste, c’è un ulteriore tasca per pistola/radio/altro.
Davanti, troviamo le due solite porta granate. Al di là del nastro, non riesco a trovargli nessuna utilià particolare, magari delle lipo stipate in contenitori appositi potrebbero andare, è sempre volume in meno altrove…
Rivoluzionato lo scomparto posteriore: mentre sul vecchio modello era un'enorme tascona con chiusura a velcro, ora abbiamo due scomparti con delle bande elastiche per metterci blocco note, penne, rite in the rain, cartine, quello che vogliamo. La rete che c’è però non protegge questi oggetti dalle intemperie, sta quindi all’utilizzatore ovviare a questa cosa utilizzando buste in plastica, per esempio.
Personalmente, ho deciso di mettere un’imbottitura, in modo che eventuali oggetti all’interno (penne, pennarelli, varie...) non andassero a sbattere sulle coste, causando oltre che un gran fastidio in movimento, anche dolori in caso caduta/tuffo a terra o anche solo movimento brusco.
Le cinghie di regolazione, come al solito, sono fatte per soddisfare le taglie importanti, nonchè portare il vest sopra un plate carrier.
The two utilities now have their own buckles, which allow us to put away safely our car keys, our wallet, or anything (food, bbs,…) that we may need. On their back, there are pouches that can hold a pistol or a radio. Attached to the utilities, two grenade pouches. I haven’t found a use of these two pouches, except for scotch. You may put there li-po batteries stored in a plastic box, it’s a good way to save some space…
The compartment on the back have been completely revisited. While on the old one it was all a big pouch with Velcro closure, now we have two compartments designed to hold bloc notes, pens, rite in the rain, etc, that may be held by the elastic bands inside. The “net” on the back doesn’t provide any protection from rain and dirt, so it’s up to the user to protect his items using plastic sachets. I was thinking to put in it some padding, so that that pens, pencils and generic tools put inside won’t hurt my chest when moving, laying on the ground prone, or even falling for an accident.
Straps allow the rig to be regulated on all sizes, even the bigger ones (as we need if we wear this over a plate carrier).

Ultimi dettagli, delle taschine sotto le utility, che possono ospitare oggetti delle dimensioni di una moneta, quali pratiche pastiglie per depurare l'acqua!

PANTAC MCR IN UNA 18 ORE
Eccoci a mettere alla prova il chest rig. Gara di 18 ore, equipaggiamento previsto per il vest (ndr, destra e sinistra si riferiscono a vest indossato!)
- Binocolo nella tasca utility sinistra.
- Radiolina VHF con antenna flex nella tasca radio sinistra
- Macchina fotografica, porta granata sinistra, nastro e moschettone agganciate a fastex.
- 8 caricatori monofilari marui (per shot&recoil, specifico perché sono più lunghi del normale) nelle tasche apposite. Tasche caricatore pistola vuote. Tasche davanti alle porta caricatori vuote.
- Box batterie in tasca porta granata destra (1 lipo per crane, 4 stilo, 2 mini stilo, 1 batteria per VHF)
- BB loader, Lista degli OBJs/appunti/foglio frequenze radio nella tasca radio destra
- Pallini in tasca utility destra
- Tasca posteriore sinistra con 3 indelebili, due matite, due pennini e un bloc notes imbustato. Imbottita.
- Tasca posteriore destra vuota, l’accesso a questa è difficoltoso e fastidioso (tengo il fucile con la destra…). Imbottita.
- Spallaccio sinistro con microfono altoparlante agganciato alla fascia in cordura, luce di navigazione rossa/bianca, antenna flex radio passante nelle bande elastiche (rivelatesi maledettamente utili e comode!)
- Spallaccio destro libero (è il braccio con cui tengo il fucile).
Facendo un po’ i conti della serva, il vest caricava circa 4kg (250gr a caricatore, 1kg i pallini, 250gr il binocolo, circa 250gr le batterie varie, 100gr macchina fotografica, 150gr la radio, qualcosina le altre cose…). A questo aggiungiamo 1,5kg di vest (dato preso dal sito) siamo a poco meno di 5,5kg.
Curioso sottolineare che lo “STANAG” NATO, quello vero, ha un peso di 455 grammi carico…
Per fare un paragone, il rodhesian della flyye, peraltro recensito qui su ASC, pesa SENZA tasche 1,2 kg (si legge qui http://www.flyyeindustries.com/ArticleS ... rodID=0226, in cima alla pagina).
Pensiamo per esempio alla “tradizionale” porta caricatori doppia: solo quella tasca sono 210gr. (http://www.flyyeindustries.com/ArticleS ... rodID=0252). Utility, tasca radio, admin, tra una cosa e l’altra come minimo ci troviamo addosso almeno un kilo in più di sola cordura.
Insomma, un’ottima capacità di carico, con un discreto risparmio di peso!
L’altra faccia della medaglia:
1) Qui manca una vera tasca admin, di indubbia utilità, ma non necessaria, io la rimpiazzo con un portadocumenti da collo
2) Ovviamente, non abbiamo la possibilità di mettere tasche più capienti, o meglio organizzate
Nel caso sia necessario il trasporto di più serbatoi, per giocate particolari per esempio, possiamo sempre ripiegare sulle utility davanti alle tasche porta caricatori (3 serbatoi in più) o sulle utility laterali.
Non si può avere tutto. Credo che organizzando bene il materiale prima di partire, non avremo difficoltà ad accedere alle varie cose di cui abbiamo bisogno. Certo è che non utilizzeremo mai in modo efficace le utility dell’MCR come tasca medica!
Gli spallacci durante le 18 ore si sono dimostrati buoni, nessun fastidio rilevano, nemmeno utilizzando uno zainetto con il suo spallaccio autonomo sopra.
Una nota per le tasche posteriori: per accedervi ho dovuto fare una zip con velcro maschio a destra e femmina a sinistra perché i velcri del vest sono piuttosto forti e rumorosi, ed accedere alle tasche era difficoltoso. Serve quindi una zip di circa 25cm a cui cucire il velcro sui lati. Personalmente ho preferito avere il senso di apertura della zip da esterno a interno.

Left Utility: binoculars
Left Radio Pouch: VHF radio with flex antenna
Left Grenade Pouch: camera and tape attached to the buckle
Mag Pouches: 8 magazines for shot&recoil (which are longer than common airsoft magazines, but the pouch is still closing right); pistol pouches and small utilities empty
Right Grenade Pouch: battery case, with 1 lipo for crane, 4 AA size, 2 AAA size, radio battery
Right Radio Pouch: BB loader, intel and radio frequency sheets
Right Utility Pouch: BBs
Left Back Pouch: 2 pencils, 3 markers, 2 pens, bloc notes, with padding
Right Back Pouch: padding only. Since I’m right handed, the access to this pouch is quite difficult and annoying

The vest was loading about four kilograms of weight (250gr each magazine, about 1kg the BBs, 250gr the binoculars, another 250gr batteries, about 100gr the camera, 150gr the radio, something more for other things). And more, the 1.5kg of the vest itselt, the total is a little less than 5.5kg.
If we want to make a “real steel” comparison, the magazines only would weight 450 gr each instead of 250gr…
Now, let’s make the comparison with another pretty common replica, like the flyye rodhesian vest, reviewed by Kraven here on ASC. It’s weight with no pouches is 1.2 kg, (found here http://www.flyyeindustries.com/ArticleS ... rodID=0226, at the top of the page). If we think at the common configuration of a RRV, where only a doube magazine pouch would weight about 200 gr, in the end we’re gonna save at least a kilo of weight.
So this MCR give us a good load, while make us save some decent weight.
The bad things are that:
1) We miss a real admin pouch, pretty useful, but not necessary, I replaced it with a neck wallet
2) Of course we cannot move the pouch as we would like, nor adding others.
If for any particular reasons we need to carry more magazines, we can use the little utilities in front of mag pouches (+3 magazines, closure only by buckles) and the lateral utilities.
We cannot have everything from this vest. It’s true that if we prepare well the vest we will easily find and reach every piece of equipment we need, but at the same time the two utilities won’t work properly as medic pouches, for examples, when we need materials to be well organized inside.
Harness hasn’t given any problem during the game, even if used combined with a backpack with its own harness.
A note on the “back pouches”: I had to add a Velcro&zip to use them properly; the Velcro alone would be too noisy and annoying to be opened. The piece is made of a zip long about 25 cm (10 inches) with female Velcro on the left side, and male on the right. I chose to put the zips so the pouches opens from the sides to the internal of the vest.
CONCLUSIONI
Sono soddisfatto del prodotto. Il colore più fedele, fastex dove servono, cuciture decenti, peso leggero per un chest rig che può accompagnarci anche in gare piuttosto lunghe. A mio parere però non è la scelta migliore quando si gioca con caricatori maggiorati, dove con tre/quattro caricatori spesso abbiamo l'autonomia per un intero torneo: Ci sono alternative più pratiche e leggere, o comunque modulabili per gestire meglio lo spazio, mentre su questo avremmo sempre un paio di tasche per caricatori che resteranno non inutilizzate, ma certamente non adatte per buona parte dell'oggettistica che dobbiamo avere pronta sottomano. D'altronde, 8 caricatori maggiorati sarebbero zavorra. Non è male come soluzione, ma non la migliore. Il discorso cambia se si utilizzano monofilari, è praticamente già organizzato per portare un numero di serbatoi sufficiente, con il resto del carico ben distribuito ed organizzato.
CONCLUSIONS
In the end, I’m satisfied of the product. Color similar to the original, fastex where needed, seams that appear to be decent, in a lightweight chest rig that we can use for the short games or the long tournaments. In my opinion this rig is not the best choice for who plays with hi-cap magazines: in fact, there are other rigs lighter, or modular, that allow us to store the 3 or 4 magazine we will need (they would last long enough for the common tournament, and for sure during a sunday Capture the Flag...). In fact, the mag pouches which we won't use for our ammo are not the best choice for the accessories we may need to store, while 8 hi capacity mags would be just ballast.
It becomes a great solution when using low-capacity magazines, it is studied to load the right amount of ammo, while storing all other things we may need.
