La Luger ha un profilo caratteristico, derivato da alcuni elementi progettuali quali la canna scoperta, lo snodo del sistema di chiusura, il calcio dalla particolare angolazione; il suo aspetto, esteticamente appagante pure se dettato da precise esigenze funzionali, ha contribuito non poco alla sua fama, sino a farla divenire un'icona nel mondo delle armi.
Non possiede l'aspetto possente ed essenziale delle armi Browning, e neppure l'imponenza minacciosa della Mauser "manico di scopa"; invece, ha una sua eleganza che è il simbolo di un'epoca di progresso e di relativo benessere.
Sotto questo profilo, troppo spesso e facilmente la pistola della DWM è stata trasformata in simbolo del regime nazionalsocialista. Si scorda che la Luger è nata ed ha raggiunto la maturità fra la Belle Epoque ed il primo dopoguerra, ed è semmai emblema di un tentativo di coniugare estetica, qualità e funzionalità proprio dell'età romantica.
L'arma che le si è affiancata nelle forze armate tedesche, la Walther P38, è certamente un esempio di funzionalità, ma esteticamente priva d'armonia, perduta in anni più bui.

The Luger has a characteristic profile, derived from some design elements such as the uncovered barrel, the lock junction, the particular grip angle. Its look, aesthetically pleasing even if dictated by specific functional requirements, has greatly contributed to its fame, until it became an icon in the world of weapons.
It does not have the mighty and essential aspect of Browning guns, and even the threating impressiveness of Mauser broomhandle.
However, it has an elegance that is the symbol of an era of progress and relative prosperity.
In this respect, too often and easily, DWM handguns has been transformed into a symbol of the Nazi regime. It must be not forgetted that the Luger was born and reached maturity in the Belle Epoque and World War I, and is rather a symbol of an attempt to combine aesthetics, quality and functionality of the Romantic age.
This weapon that besided it in the German armed forces, the Walther P38, it is certainly an example of functionality, but lacking in aesthetic harmony, lost in darkest years.

Tecnicamente, l'arma ha un meccanismo di scatto a percussore lanciato, con un sistema di chiusura a snodo; gli elementi principali di questo sistema sono la canna con la culatta, il castello, e l'otturatore, composto di due elementi incernierati fra di loro.
In condizione normale, i due elementi dell'otturatore sono allineati fra di loro e formano un angolo tale, da essere solidali al complesso canna - culatta; allo sparo, il rinculo fa scorrere all'indietro su apposite rotaie l'assieme canna ed otturatore, sino a che due elementi sporgenti laterali, posti allo snodo dell'otturatore, non raggiungono dei risalti ricavati nel castello.
Sollevandosi, i due elementi che formano l'otturatore si piegano, liberandosi dalla canna e compiendo il ciclo di espulsione e ricarica dell'arma.

Technically, the gun has a trigger mechanism with launched striker, and a  articulated joint lock.  The main elements of this system are the barrel with the breech, the frame, and the bolt, consisting of two hinged elements.
In normal condition, the two bolt elements are aligned with each other and forming an angle such as to be integral to the whole barrel - receiver. At the shot, the recoil slide backwards along special rails the barrel and bolt, until two protruding parts of the bolt do not reach off-set obtained in the frame.
Rising, the two elements that make up the bolt will bend, releasing the barrel and making the cycle of ejection and reloading the weapon.

Una molla provvede poi a fare nuovamente avanzare il complesso formato da canna ed otturatore, sino all'esaurirsi dei proiettili. Allora, l'otturatore rimane aperto e sollevato, rendendo immediatamente percepibile al tiratore l'arma scarica.
L'angolazione del calcio, ritenuta ottimale per il tiro istintivo e mirato, e il rinculo bene assorbito, rendono la pistola estremamente piacevole da usare e precisa dello sparo.
Di converso, gran parte del meccanismo è privo di protezione, e quindi soggetto, anche per le ridotte tolleranze costruttive, a risentire di sporco e depositi; anche il meccanismo di scatto, benchè dotato di una sicura manuale, è certamente soggetto al rischio di sparo accidentale (e difatti, nelle armi svizzere è stata introdotta una sicura automatica dorsale all'impugnatura).
Un altro elemento di di non poco conto è dato dalla complessa lavorazione necessaria a produrla, tale da rendere obbligatori degli aggiustamenti per le componenti di ogni singola arma; un aspetto certamente negativo in termini pratici, ma che non ha impedito la costruzione di quasi un milione e mezzo di armi, e che le ha rese da sempre oggetti di desiderio, proprio per la loro unicità.

A spring shall then forward again to the complex formed by the barrel and slide, until the exhaustion of bullets.

The angle of grip, which is considered optimal for instinctive shooting, and well absorbed recoil, makes the handgun very comfortable to use and accurate in shooting.

Another element of some relevance it is given by the complex processing needed to produce it, that would make mandatory an adjustments to the components individual for each weapon, certainly a negative aspect in practical terms, but that has not prevented the construction of nearly one million and a half guns, and that has always made each one object of desire, because of their uniqueness.

Il sistema di chiusura a snodo ha vissuto e vive esclusivamente nella Luger; nessuna pistola moderna o contemporanea lo ha ripreso, tentando di perfezionarlo, anche se alcune armi da divertimento lo hanno semplificato.
Un'ultima curiosità: come si chiamava veramente la Luger?
Ogni nazione che l'ha adottata, ha provveduto a ribattezzarla, in genere riferendosi all'anno di entrata in servizio; quindi, la sigla P08 per esteso significa Pistola modello 1908.
La DWM, ditta produttrice, commercialmente la battezzò Parabellum; la ragione è questa. La società aveva scelto come suo motto la locuzione latina "si vis pacem, para bellum", derivata da "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum, una frase contenuta nel libro III dell'Epitoma rei militaris di Vegezio, opera composta alla fine del IV secolo.
Dovendo scegliere un indirizzo telegrafico, la DWM creò la parola "parabellum", e decise quindi usarla per il proprio prodotto di maggior successo. Nel tempo questo neologismo passò ad indicare le pistole automatiche di grosso calibro, e quindi un po' tutte le armi automatiche, sino ad essere usato per il mitra PPSH, ribattezzato "parabello".

The locking system lived and lives exclusively in Luger; no contemporary or modern gun has taken over trying to improve it, but some fun weapons have a very simplified derivative.
One final curiosity about Luger: what was really his name ?
Every country that adopted it, proceeded to rename it, usually using the year of entry into service; therefore, the term P08 full means pistol model 1908.
DWM, manufacturer, commercially named it Parabellum, and the reason is this. The company had chosen as his motto the Latin phrase "si vis pacem, para bellum" (if you will want the peace, make ready for war), derived from
Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum", a phrase contained in Book III of Vegetius Epitoma rei militaris, a work composed in the late fourth century AD.
When choosing a telegraphic address, DWM created the word Parabellum, and then decided to use it on its more successful products. Over time, this new word came to denote the large-caliber automatic pistols, and then some 'all automatic weapons up to be used for PPSH SMG, dubbed in Italy the parabello.

E allora, Luger da dove esce? Negli Stati Uniti la pistola era commercializzata dalla ditta Stoeger, che brevettò come sua denominazione il cognome del progettista, e, nel secondo dopoguerra, produsse pure delle varianti da collezione.
Fu solo dopo la seconda guerra mondiale,e  soprattutto negli States, che si iniziò a parlare di Luger. Hollywood ha fatto il resto.

And then, where Luger comes out?  U.S. gun was sold by Stoeger company, who patented his name as the surname of the designer, and, after World War II, also produced variations of the collector.
It was only after World War II, especially in the States, who began to talk of Luger.
Hollywood has done the rest.

Un po' di dati, ora, tratti dal libro di John Walther sulle Luger:

Scritte queste poche note frettolose, la Luger per gli appassionati d'armi rimane un oggetto fra i più ambiti dell'intero pianeta.
Per i fabbricanti di repliche ASG, invece, la pistola tedesca non è stata una tentazione: si possono contare sulle dita della mano le sue riproduzioni a molla od a gas, e fra queste ultima spicca, anche per il prezzo, la P08 della ditta giapponese Tanaka, che qualche anno orsono ha proposto una sua replica, per gran parte stampata in ABS; i pareri su questo prodotto concordano sia nel rilevare l'altissima fedeltà di riproduzione, che nel contestare alcuni punti deboli progettuali, ed in particolare nel segnalare trafilamenti di gas dal serbatoio, rilevando la fragilità di alcune componenti plastiche del meccanismo.
Poco tempo fa, col marchio WE iTech, sono apparse sul mercato tre riproduzioni completamente metalliche della Luger, che si differenziano per la lunghezza della canna (10, 15 e 20 centimetri, in questo ultimo caso con alzo regolabile), equivalenti rispettivamente alla Pistole 08, Mauser Marine 04 e Pistole 08 Lang dell'esercito tedesco.

Written these few hasty notes, the Luger for fans of weapons it remains an object amid the most desired of whole the planet.
For manufacturers of replicas ASG, however, the German gun was not a temptation. La ditta WEi Tech, con sede a Taiwan, ha fatto apparire sul mercato una serie di repliche completamente metalliche, offerte a prezzi competitivi; le opinioni espresse su vari forum valutano questi prodotti come robusti, ma un po' grezzi. Un livello qualitativo che può forse adattarsi al modello di una Colt 1911, ma non certo ad un soggetto raffinatamente elitario come la Luger. Come stanno le cose?

Wei Tech company, based in Taiwan, has appeared on the market a run completely metal, offering competitive prices, the opinions expressed on various forums evaluate these products as robust, but a bit 'rough. A quality that can possibly fit the model of a Colt 1911, but not to a subject as the refined and elitarian  Luger.
How are things?


Beh, bando alla filosofia, ed entriamo nel vivo, presentando prima (come d'uso) la confezione.
Stavolta si tratta di una scatola in cartone, con all'interno del polistirolo sagomato per contenere la replica e gli accessori.

La box art presenta le tre versioni offerte, che sono indicate come di formato S (small), M (medium) e L (large), neanche fossero mutande o calzini.
Per uno strano senso dell'economia, la scatola resta la stessa per i tre prodotti; il risultato è che il modello con canna da quattro pollici appare un po' miserello, rispetto allo spazio lasciato libero... tant'é. Misteri d'Oriente!
La WE ha provato a fare le cose in grande, e sollevando il coperchio, l'acquirente dovrebbe trovare il suo modello adagiato su un panno nero; ahimé, la tela non è incollata, e il trasporto scombina l'effetto, dando l'impressione di un prodotto da mercatino rionale.

The box art shows the three versions offered, which are indicated as size S (small), M (medium) and L (large) even being underpants or socks.

Il manuale è abbastanza buono, ben illustrato, e coi testi in cinese ed inglese. Sono fornite anche tre chiavi a brugola; quella di misura intermedia regola l'hop-up, e le altre... ancora devo scoprire a cosa servano.

Descritto quello che ha attorno, veniamo al modello vero e proprio.
La replica è effettivamente realizzata tutta in metallo, ad eccezione delle guancette, certamente non all'altezza dell'assieme, ed a parte delle componenti interne del gruppo di sparo in plastica.

The manual is quite good, well illustrated, and with texts in Chinese and English. They also provided three allen keys, an the midsized it operate the the hop-up adjustement, and the other ... I still have to discover what they do.

Described what was around, we come to the model itself.
The replica is actually made entirely of metal, except for the plastic grips, certainly not at the same level of the remaining GBB part, and part of the internal components of the shot gear.

Le parti sono finite nettamente, e ricoperte con una vernice nera opaca, che pare destinata a rovinarsi già al primo graffio.
La fusione delle parti è ottima, con superfici nette, e nessun segno visibile di stampo. La fedeltà della riproduzione, per dimensioni e forme, giudicatela voi stessi dal confronto con l'originale, cortesemente messo a disposizione da un appassionato, che ringrazio; a mio avviso è più che buona, con la lunghezza giusta al millimetro.
Il peso complessivo è di 831 grammi, con caricatore che da solo fa segnare 175 grammi.

The parts are sharply realized, and covered with a flat black paint, which seems destined to ruin at the first scratch.
The parts molding is excellent, with sharp surfaces and no visible sign of mold. Judge yourself about the fidelity of reproduction, size and shape,  by comparison with the original, kindly made available by a collector. I thank him, and I think that fidelity it is good, with the right length to the millimeter.
The total weight it is of 831 grams, with a magazine that is 175 grams.

I marchi sono scarni: l'indicazione 1915, relativa all'anno di fabbricazione, sull'otturatore e sul castello, e la scritta "gesichert" presso la leva della sicura manuale.

Trademarks are meager: an indication 1915, for the year of manufacture, on the bolt and frame, and the word gesichert at the manual safety lever.

Qui un appunto bisogna farlo. La Luger deve buona parte della sua fama all'accurata lavorazione; è stata costruita in oltre un milione di pezzi unici. Ogni pistola era rifinita singolarmente, e le sue componenti erano marcate con parte del numero di matricola; provare a scambiarle poteva impedirne il funzionamento.

Here a note must be done. The Luger has much of its fame to the accurate processing, It was constructed over a million pieces. Each gun was finished individually, and its parts were marked with the serial number; try exchanging, could prevent it from working.

I marchi presenti sulla replica sono un po' assurdi: questa pare essere l'arma matricola 1915 del 1915...

Piccolezze, comunque, rispetto alle fantasie di altri fabbricanti. La differenza più evidente riguarda gli snodi del caricatore, la cui zigrinatura differisce dall'originale con cui ho potuto confrontarla.

The labels on replication are a bit 'absurd: this seems to be the weapon serial number 1915 of 1915 ...

Trifles, however, than the fantasies of other manufacturers. The most obvious difference concerns the joints of the bolt, which differs from the milledoriginal with which I could compare.

L'organizzazione meccanica di questo modello ricalca l'originale (e, a quanto leggo, il modello Tanaka, che mai ho avuto la fortuna di poter esaminare, od il denaro per possedere...).

I comandi a disposizione del tiratore sono: - il grilletto, dalla caratteristica forma semilunata - la leva della sicura, collocata sulla parte posteriore sinistra della culatta - la leva di smontaggio, presente sulla parte anteriore sinistra del castello - il pulsante di sgancio del caricatore, posto a sinistra sul calcio, all'altezza del ponticello.

The mechanical organization of this model reproduces the original (and, as I read, the Tanaka model, which I never had the chance to examine, or have the money to buy...).

Commands available to the shooter are the trigger, having the characteristic half-moon shape - the safety lever, located on the rear left of the breech - the disassembly lever, on the front left of the frame - the magazine release button, to the left on grip, at the height of the trigger guard.

L'ergonomia è buona, specie per i tre comandi di sparo, anche se ovviamente non alla pari di armi di nuova generazione.

Ergonomics is good, especially for three firing commands, but obviously not up to par with new generation weapons.

Questa scomposizione è (ahimè) indispensabile impararla, in quanto solo così si può accedere alla regolazione dell'HOP UP, che avviene tramite una vite a brugola, impiegando la chiavetta fornita appositamente.

Resta da sperare che la replica esca dalla fabbrica tarata...

Procedendo oltre, si sfila il perno che vincola posteriormente alla culatta l'otturatore; questo può allora essere sfilato e ulteriormente scomposto togliendo anche il perno mediano.

This disassembly (alas) must be learned, as the only way to access to hop-up, which is through an Allen key, provided for this purpose.

Only hope it is that the replica will leave the factory being calibrated ...

Proceeding further, you remove the pin which binds the rear of the breech bolt, this can then be further broken down and pulled the pin also removing the median.

Tolto l'otturatore, è possibile rimuovere anche la canna e la molla coassiale.

Con la replica scomposta, si nota anche qualche "licenza" rispetto all'originale; non solo nell'organizzazione meccanica (obbligatoria, per una cerbottana a gas) ma in alcuni alleggerimenti di parti non visibili, come le componenti dell'otturatore a snodo.

Una finezza è l'estrattore, che è riprodotto perfettamente, anche se non ha alcuna utilità.

Removed the bolt, you can also remove the barrel and coaxial spring.

With replication disassembled, there is even some license from the original, not only in mechanics organizing (mandatory for a blowgun gas) but in some lightening of non-visible components such as bolt ends.

A subtlety it is the extractor, which is reproduced perfectly, even if not operating.

Per la ricomposizione, si segue il processo inverso, avendo cura di arretrare la canna, prima di azionare la leva di svincolo, e di ruotare i due piccoli fermi dell'otturatore.

For the reassembly, follow the inverse process, making sure to back the barrel, before operating the release lever, and rotate the two small bolt latches.

FUNZIONAMENTO

OPERATION

Il sistema di funzionamento della replica è del tipo a cane interno battente, abbastanza complesso, in quanto comporta due azioni distinte.

In fase di armamento, l'arretramento completo dell'otturatore provoca l'armamento del cane interno, oltre l'arretramento del gruppo gas.

Ritornando in avanti, l'otturatore porta con se il gruppo gas, che camera il pallino.

The operation mechanism of replica it is an internal hammer type, quite complex, since it involves two separate actions.

At loading, the bolt complete retreat it causes the arming of the inner hammer, as well as the backwarding of the gas group.

Returning forward, the bolt carry the gas group, which rooms the BB.

Una volta premuto il grilletto, il cane si abbatte sulla valvola d'uscita del gas.

Sparato il pallino, il gas viene spinto nella camera di espansione, e fa rinculare sia il gruppo gas (riarmando il cane), che l'otturatore snodato, offrendo lo spettacolo dell'apertura e chiusura dell'azione Luger.

Il caricatore riprende molto bene la forma dell'originale, ma la capacità sale a 15 pallini, contro gli otto proiettili originali.

La sua organizzazione non si discosta dallo standard delle GBB, con la valvola d'entrata (munita di guarnizione per impedire le perdite durante il rifornimento) sul fondello, e quella d'uscita posta superiormente.

Once you press the trigger, the hammer hits the gas outlet valve.

Fired the bullet, the gas is pushed into the expansion chamber, and makes recoil both the gas group (rearming the hammer), that the articulated bolt, offering the spectacle of the opening and closing of the Luger.

The magazine reproduces very well the shape of the original, but the capacity increases to 15 BB, against the original eight bullets.

His organization does not differ from the standard of GBB, the entry valve (fitted with a gasket to prevent leakage during filling) it is in the bottom, and the output placed above.

Il serbatoio è veramente piccolo, è permette di sparare al massimo un caricatore.

The magazine it is really small, you can shoot up to a BB charge.

The supply of BB is well studied: fully lowered the lift, the shot entering through a hole large enough to make the task easier. The magazine it has a single stack, and it supplies well the weapon.

The latch and the compartment are well constructed, leaving no room to play, the release button is in a position to make it impossible to push, if not changing the handling.

PROVA A "FUOCO".

FIRING TEST

E veniamo alle esperienze di tiro.

La Luger non si impugna, si indossa... grazie alla sua inconfondibile impugnatura.

E, una volta che la si tiene stretta nella mano, si solleva all'indietro lo snodo dell'otturatore, camerando il primo pallino.

Attenzione, perché il modello ha una idiosincrasia: il caricatore può essere introdotto solo dopo aver arretrato il gruppo aria, armando l'otturatore.

L'arma va in punteria molto bene, specie nel tiro mirato ad una mano; ahimè, le mire fedelmente riprodotte provano tutti i loro anni, e sono difficili da acquisire, anche con condizioni di luce favorevoli.

That brings us to the shooting experience.

The Luger is not gripped, but you wear it ... Thanks to its unique handle.

And, once held tight in hand, it raises the rearward bolt pivot, rooming the first BB.

Be careful, because the model has an idiosyncrasy: the charger can be introduced only after having racked the bolt.

The gun goes on sighting very well, especially in the one hand shooting, alas, the faithfully reproduced sights shows all their years, and are difficult to acquire, even under favorable light.

Lo scatto é leggero, e richiede solo due chili di trazione.

La corsa del grilletto è di soli cinque millimetri, poco più di tre dei quali di prescatto.

Il rilascio del cane è netto e dolce.

Il rinculo si avverte, con una forza che definirei nella norma, ma con un effetto ottico del tutto unico, dato dall'otturatore che si solleva e si abbassa.

Esauriti i pallini, il dispositivo di arma scarica mantiene sollevato l'otturatore, frapponendolo alle mire; una caratteristica che rende immediatamente comprensibile l'esaurimento delle munizioni.

Una volta tolto il caricatore, l'otturatore può essere sbloccato traendolo per un poco all'indietro.

Attenzione, il percussore è armato: o si spara un colpo a vuoto, o si inserisce la sicura, o si rimette un nuovo caricatore pronto al tiro.

A proposito di sicura, questa funziona come l'originale, bloccando la barra di trasmissione fra grilletto e dente del cane.

The trigger trip it is lightweight and requires only two kilos of traction.

The travel is only five millimeters, slightly less than two of them being overtravel.

The hammer release it is clean and sweet.

The recoil is felt with a force that I would call normal, but with an entirely unique visual effect as from bolt that raises and lowers.

Spent the BB, the empty weapon device maintains raised the bolt, interposing it amid the sights, a feature that makes instantly understandable the exhaustion of ammunition.

Once removed the magazine, the bolt can be unlocked by taking it a little backwards.

Attention, the hammer is cocked: you may fire a dry shot, or putt the safety, or a new full magazine.


About safety, this works like the original, blocking the transmission between trigger bar and a tooth of the hammer.

Come tira, questa replica?

Una volta presa mano (e ci vuole poco) alle mire, e regolato l'hop up, si ha una ASG veramente precisa; la Luger non si smentisce, anche se riprodotta.

Il bersaglio che riproduco è il primo, dopo la taratura dell'H/U; ed i successivi si mantengono a questo livello.

How it shots, this replica? 

Once acquainted (and it takes a little) to the sights, and adjusted the hop up, ASG is a very precise one. Luger is not denied, even if reproduced.

The target here reproduced it is the first i soht after calibration of the H / U, and the following are maintained at this level.

La P08 tirerà a raffica... . Non so se la ditta produttrice abbia modificato questi dettagli nel corso della produzione, e mi riservo di aggiungere a questa recensione i risultati di un uso prolungato nel tempo.
