Parto da un piccolo esercizio matematico: un conteggio.

Vado sul sito di un noto commerciante sanmarinese, raggiungo la sezione dedicata alle pistole, e trovo dieci repliche Beretta, in buona parte varianti della 92; un salto da un suo collega e connazionale, ed ecco quattordici repliche ufficiali ed ufficiose della casa gardonese.

Insomma, la pistola italiana più famosa nel mondo continua ad essere famosa e desiderata, e la scelta di una replica diviene (soprattutto in acquisti tramite internet) un pochino complessa, e preceduta da lunghe consultazioni di forum e recensioni.

Questo, per dire che qui descrivo un modello di Beretta M9, senza pretendere di averli esaminati tutti, e senza fare classifiche.

 

I will start from a little mathematical exercise: a count.

I go on the site of a famous San Marino trader, I reach the section devoted to pistols, and found ten Beretta  replicas, mostly 92 variants; a jump to a colleague and compatriot, and there are fourteen official and unofficial  replicas of the same weapon.

In short, the most famous Italian gun in the world continues to be famous and desired, and the choice of a replica becomes (especially in purchases over the Internet) a bit complex, and preceded by extensive consultation of forums and reviews.

This, to say that I describe here just a model of the Beretta M9, without pretending to have them all tested, and without charts.

 

 

 

 

 

La replica in questione è prodotta dai gemelli diversi del softair: il connubio KWA taiwanese e KSC nipponica. Il sodalizio è tornato più volte sull'arma italiana, proponendo più versioni che rispecchiano sia le migliorie e le varianti apportate all'originale, che la crescente qualità della replica.

La KWA U.S. 9mm M9 di cui parlo è un modello abbastanza recente, e rappresenta uno stadio intermedio fra i primi prodotti e le più recenti realizzazioni, fra cui si annovera la versione completamente in metallo, col nuovo sistema di rinculo.

 

The replica it is produced by the different  twins of airsoft: the combination of Taiwanese KWA and Japanese KSC. Both has returned several times on the Italian weapon, offering multiple versions that reflect both improvements and variations made to the original, and also increasing the quality of replications.

The KWA U.S. 9mm M9 of which I speak is a fairly recent model, and represents an intermediate stage between the first products and the latest achievements, among which I includes the full metal version, with the new blowback system.

 

 

 

La confezione non si discosta dallo standard cartone sopra - polistirolo dentro. La box art presenta una foto della replica, su uno sfondo mimetico di fantasia, e con l'indicazione della produttrice KWA scritta a chiare lettere.

Dentro, oltre alla replica si trova un manuale in chiarissimo giapponese (infatti, porta la sigla della ditta nipponica KSC...), con buone illustrazioni. Lo stesso manuale, nell'edizione precedente ed in inglese, si trova abbastanza facilmente su internet.

Sono presenti alcuni utensili: un accessorio per il caricamento dei pallini, un utensile per regolare l'hop up, una chiavetta a brugola per la manutenzione della sicura, e un minuscolo elemento rettangolare in plastica di cui non ho compreso lo scopo. Non manca, infine, la manciatina di pallini, che paiono di buona qualità.

 

The package does not deviate from the standard board above - Styrofoam inside.

The box art features a photo of the replica, on a camouflaged background, and clearly written it is reported the manufacturer as the KWA.

Inside, in addition to the replica, there is a clear manual in Japanese (in fact, marked with Japanese Company KSC ...), with good illustrations. The same manual, being the previous English edition, it is quite easily found on the Internet.

There are some tools: an accessory for the BB loading, a tool to adjust the hop up, one Allen key for the maintenance of safety lever, and a tiny rectangular plastic element, of which I did not understand the purpose. Not missing, finally, an handful of BB, which seem quite good.

 

 

 

 

E veniamo alla replica; carrello, castello, e outer barrel sono realizzati in ABS con finitura superficiale opaca.

Il livello di dettaglio è più che buono, con spigoli nitidi e particolari ben definiti sia in rilievo positivo che negativo; è visibile una traccia di stampata sul castello, ed è un peccato.

Le dimensioni sono esatte, al millimetro, e la sagoma offre il feeling dell'arma originale, l'ordinanza statunitense, replicandone le caratteristiche peculiari:

- calcio leggermente più grande;

- fondello del caricatore di forma modificata, per raccordarsi col profilo del calcio;

- zigrinature sulla faccia anteriore e posteriore del calcio;

- ponticello con poggiadito zigrinato ricavato sulla parte anteriore, per favorire la presa a due mani

- sicurezza automatica al percussore (costituita da un pistoncino sagomato, azionato dal grilletto, ne è simulata la parte superiore, sulla sommità del castello).

Le guancette sono in dignitosa plastica nera, prive di qualsiasi marchio.

 

That brings us to the reply; frame, slide, and outer barrel are made by ABS, with matt surface finish.

The detail level it is more than good, with sharp edges and well defined details in both positive and negative relief. There is a visible trace of mould on the frame, and that it is a shame.

The dimensions are accurate to the millimeter, and the shape it has the feel of the original weapon, the U.S. ordnance, replicating its characteristics:

- slightly larger grip;

- modified form of the magazine pad;

- knurling on the front and rear of the grip;

- knurled front of the trigger guard

- Automatic safety to the firing pin (consisting of a shaped piston, operated by the trigger); on this model, it is simulatedon top of the castle).

The grips are in decent black plastic, without any mark.

 

 

 

 

 

Di parti in metallo ce ne sono a josa: dalla campanella per il correggiolo, passando per le leve di sicurezza, alla leva dell'hold open, a quella di smontaggio, al cane, al grilletto, al dispositivo reversibile (e lo è davvero) di fermo del caricatore, alla barra di trasmissione dello scatto, all'asta guidamolla. Stesso materiale è stato impiegato per i componenti interni soggetti al tormento del rinculo, inseriti in un frame di ABS; non so cosa accadrà con l'aumento delle temperature, ma questa mi pare  una replica progettata per resistere a lungo.

There is a plenty of metal parts: the lanyard ring, the safety levers, the hold open, the disassembly latch, the hammer and trigger, the magazine latch (that could be reverted from left to right side), the transmission bar, the recoil spring guide. The same material it was used for the internal components that are subject to the torment of recoil, placed inside an ABS frame. I do not know what will happen with increasing temperatures, and stronger gas action, but this seems a replica designed to long withstanding.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Le mire sono fedeli per forma all'originale, con mirino a cresta e tacca posteriore; tre riferimenti bianchi facilitano la mira d'istinto. Nonostante il manuale dica il contrario, non è possibile compiere alcuna regolazione, ed è un vero peccato.

La canna interna è in ottone, la canna esterna in ABS.

 

The sights are faithful to the original, with notch rear sight. Three white references will facilitate the quick aiming. Although the manual says otherwise, you can not make any adjustments, and this it is really a pity.

The inner barrel it is made by brass, the outer produced by ABS.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

E veniamo ai marchi... che sulla replica KWA sono questi

Su entrambi i fianchi del carrello, un punto rosso segnala che la sicura è disinserita.

 

And we come to the markings ... that are

any marking on the frame, as opposed to KSC model

 

These are the markings on the real M9:

Left slide: "U.S. 9mm M9 - Beretta U.S.A. - 65490" followed by the Beretta "PB" logo. 65490 is Beretta's contractor code.
Left frame: serial number - some examples start with "M9-"
Right slide: "ASSY 9346487-65490 PM" where PM is the proof mark

Hammer: marked on the left side with an assembly number and the 65490 contractor code.

For a lucky accident, I found some clear pictures of real steel with serial number 1125713, that you can look at this address:

and, as is evident, the marks of KWA are not faithful to reality, but inspired to it.

 

On both sides of the slide, a red dot it indicates that the safety is off.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Il caricatore è realizzato quasi completamente in lamiera metallica, con l'organizzazione consueta: sul fondo la valvola di riempimento (non ha la guarnizione esterna, e quindi, una volta pieno, si vede lo sbuffo), posteriormente ed in alto il percussore della valvola d'uscita, sopra la guarnizione di raccordo al circuito di sparo e rinculo, e davanti il serbatoio capace di 27 BB. Niente da dire sul serbatoio del gas: una carica spara una cinquantina di pallini, e sino ad ora (ben oltre il migliaio di tiri) non è accaduto alcun inconveniente. Il caricatore si inserisce e toglie benissimo, e una volta in sede è trattenuto molto bene dal suo fermo, senza laschi o giochi.

Per qualità e robustezza, lo giudico fra i migliori che ho potuto esaminare.

 

The magazine it is made almost entirely of metal sheet, with the usual organization: the filling valve on the bottom (it has not the silent valve, and then, once full, you felt the classical puff), and, on the back of the top, the output valve striker, having above the seal connecting the firing and recoil circuit, and in front the storage for 27 BB.

Nothing to say about the gas tank: a charge fired fifty shots, and so far (well over a thousand shots) to me did not happen any inconvenience.

The magazine fits and removes easily, and once in place it is kept firmly by its latch, with no loose.

Due to its quality and robustness, I judge it amid the best that I could examine.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Il rifornimento dei pallini avviene mediante una tramoggia mobile a stantuffo. Sistema abbastanza rapido, ed efficiente, ma decisamente inadatto ai campi di gioco. L’alternativa è il rifornimento manuale.

Ho trovato due inconvenienti, comuni a questi caricatori; l'impossibilità di controllare il numero di BB residui, e la grossa difficoltà a rimuoverli, se finisce il gas.

 

The supply of pellets could be done through a supplied mobile plunger  hopper. A system pretty fast, and efficient, but definitely not suitable for playing fields. The alternative it is the manual feed.

I found two problems common to these magazines, the inability to control the remaining number of BB, and the great difficulty to remove them, having emptied the gas tank.

 

 

 

 

 

Lo smontaggio segue la sequenza dell'arma originale:

- si rimuove il caricatore;

- si controlla che non sia rimasto un pallino in camera; di solito, scarrellando, se c'è se ne esce senza bisogno di scovolini;

- si preme e mantiene compresso  il pulsante posto sul lato sinistro del castello,  sopra il ramo anteriore del ponticello;

- si ruota in senso orario di 90 gradi la leva del chiavistello di smontaggio, in posizione opposta al pulsante di fermo;

- si spinge in avanti il carrello, sino a liberarlo dalle rotaie;

- spingendo in avanti e quindi sollevandola, si estraggono l'asta guidamolla e la molla di recupero

- si ruota e si rimuove il blocco di chiusura (ricordando la posizione esatta)

- si spinge in avanti, si solleva, e si rimuove la canna, e questo dovrebbe bastare per la pulizia ordinaria.

Il montaggio segue il processo inverso.

 

Disassembly of the weapon replica follows the original sequence:

- remove the magazine;

- Check that a BB has not been retained into barrel; usually just a racking could remove it. without need to use a cleaning rod;

- Press and keep pressed the button on the left side of the castle, above the front of trigger guard;

- rotate clockwise by 90 degrees the disassembly latch lever, opposite to the retaining button;

- Pushing forward the slide, up to free it from the rails;

- Pushing forward and then lifting it, take out the spring guide rod and recoil spring

- Then rotate and remove the locking block (recalling the exact location)

- move forward, raises, and remove the barrel, and this should be sufficient for normal cleaning.

The reassembling follows the reverse process.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Esaminando nel dettaglio la meccanica, ho provato stupore nello scoprire con quanta fedeltà è stato riprodotto il funzionamento della pistola originale.

Il sistema di chiusura geometrica a blocco oscillante funziona correttamente, e scarrellando si vedono le alette del blocco impegnare i recessi del castello, e liberare la canna.

La sicura ambidestra è, come nell'originale, tipo FS: in posizione orizzontale l'arma è pronta al tiro, mentre ruotandola di 45 gradi in basso la catena di scatto si disconnette, il cane eventualmente armato è abbattuto, e un cilindro interno ruota,  sottraendo il percussore alla battuta del cane. Per sparare, occorre riportare la sicura in posizione di fuoco.

Infine, il cane può essere armato a mezza monta.

Certamente, nelle ASG la sicura non si usa molto, ma questa complessità propria dell'originale e così ben riprodotta, mi fa apprezzare il lavoro dei tecnici taiwanesi (in molte repliche della 92 la leva di sicurezza si limita a bloccare la catena di scatto).

Altra caratteristica è che outer ed inner barrell sono solidali, formando un unico elemento che nel ciclo di tiro opera esattamente come per l’arma vera. Data la meccanica della M9, in cui la canna retrocede ma non oscilla, questo incide poco sulla precisione del tiro.

 

Examining in detail the mechanics, I felt amazing to find how the original gun operations has been faithfully reproduced.

The oscillating block of the geometric lock system it works properly, and racking the slide, you could see the block fins engage the slide recesses and leave the barrel free.

The safety is ambidextrous, as the original, ad belong to the FS type. In horizontal position of the lever, the weapon is ready to fire, while turning it 45 degrees below the trigger chain is disconnected, the hammer it is uncocked, and an inner cylinder rotates subtracting the striker to the hammer. At last, the hammer could also be half cocked.

To shoot, you must bring the safety lever in fire position.

Certainly, in the ASG you do not use so much the safety, but this complexity retained from the original and so well preserved, it makes me appreciate the work of Taiwanese engineers (many replicas of the safety lever 92 merely break the trigger chain) .

Another feature it is that outer and inner barrell are united, forming one element, that in the cycle of fire works exactly like the real weapon. Given the mechanics of the M9 in which the barrel recedes but non fluctuates, it affects little on shooting accuracy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Come nella vera M9, anche nel modello KWA è possible spostare il pulsante di sgancio del caricature sulla destra, per il tiratore mancino.

Per compiere questa operazione, occorre prima togliere le guancette; attenzione, perché così si espongono delle parti piccole che possono staccarsi dal modello.

Una volta rimosse le guancette, si preme l’estremità del ritegno opposta al pulsante, e quindi la si spinge all’indietro, liberando il ritegno.

Si infila quindi il pulsante nella sua sede, e si fissa il ritegno spingendone l’opposta estremità.

 

Like on real M9,  KWA model made also possible to move the magazine latch button on the right of grip, for left-handed shooter.

To do this, you must first remove the grip panels; keep attention, because this will expose small parts that can detach from the model.

Once removed the grips you press the end of the latch opposite to button, and then move it back, releasing the latch.

Then slip the button in its place, and setting retention pushing the opposite end.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beh, del fuori e del dentro ho detto abbastanza... come funziona?

Benissimo, lo dico subito, e vi racconto i motivi.

 

L’impugnatura della Beretta, anche a motivo del caricature bifilare, è abbastanza spessa; la presa a due mani “premi e tira” consente di controllare completamente la replica, e soprattutto di dosare bene la pressione sul grilletto. Tutti i comandi sono facilmente accessibili, e funzionano in modo efficace.

La leva di sicura, che in altre repliche se azionata provoca l’arretramento del carrello, qui ruota in modo fluido, ma senza alcun lasco.

 

Le mire, anche se fisse, si acquisiscono bene, e sono abbastanza giuste rispetto al punto d'impatto dei pallini.

 

Well, of its outside and inside I have said enough ... but, how does it work?

The grip of the Beretta, partly because of the double stack magazine, it is thick enough; the two-hand grip "push and pull" allows complete control of replication, especially regarding the pressure on the trigger. All controls are easily accessible and operate efficiently.

The safety lever, which when activated on other replicas causes the back movement of the slide, here it is fluid, but without any slack.

 

 

The sights, even if fixed, will be easily acquired, and are quite right related to the point of impact of bullets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lo scatto è più che buono; misurandolo ho trovato che il rilascio del cane richiede 3,9 chilogrammi di trazione in doppia azione, e 2,4 in singola; il movimento è filante e preciso, e il prescatto si avverte nettamente, ma con la sensazione di molto minore sforzo.

La corsa del grilletto in doppia azione è di 2,5 centimetri, con l'irrigidimento che preavvisa dello scatto a circa 5 mm.

In singola azione, la precorsa è di 8 millimetri, e il prescatto di 1 solo, senza grattamenti.

Allo sparo, canna e carrello viaggiano uniti per un centimetro, poi questo componente si libera e rincula ancora per sedici millimetri.

 

The trigger gear it is more than good.

I found by measuring that the release of the hammer it requires 3.9 kg of traction in dual-, and 2.4 in single action. The movement it is streamlined and precise, with the feel of much less effort.

The double action trigger stroke is 2.5 cm, with a freezing warning of about 5 mm. preceding the shot.

In single action, pre-travel is 8 mm.

On discharge, barrel and slide are travelling together to one centimeter, then this last component is freed and still recoils for sixteen millimeters.

 

Il sistema blow - back è buono, e il rinculo si sente, anche se assai meno che su modelli hard kick come la Desert Eagle della Marui.

Esauriti i pallini, l'hold open trattiene aperto il carrello; a dire il vero, lo si percepisce più dal rumore, che non visivamente.

Un calo di potenza precede l'esaurimento del gas di uno o due pallini; meglio badarci, per evitare un overload jamming.

 

The blow - back system it is good, and the recoil could be clearly felt, though much less than on hard kick models like the Marui Desert Eagle.

Spent the BB, the slide hold open; to be honest, it is felt more by noise, that visually.

A loss of power precedes of one or two shots the gas depletion; better take care of it, to avoid an overload jamming.

 

Il tracciato sonoro documenta il caricamento, seguito da cinque colpi, partiti in un secondo e mezzo: tre decimi per ogni tiro.

La traccia di un singolo tiro mostra una lieve traccia iniziale, brevissima e che identifico con lo scatto, e quindi il tiro, che si completa in 12 centesimi di secondo.

 

The sound track document loading, followed by five shots in a second and a half, three tenths for each shot.

The trace of a single shot shows a slight initial trace, that I identify with the trigger release,  and then the shot, which is completed in 12 hundredths of a second.

La qualità del tiro: beh, anziché mostrare i soliti pochi colpi, eccone sessanta sparati di seguito, a due mani e cinque metri. Otto sono fuori del bersaglio, e per colpa di chi spara; i resti sono concentrati, e preciso di avere cambiato tre volte il punto di mira, perché il foro non mi permetteva più di percepire l'impatto.

Insomma... se non la migliore, una fra le più belle e precise repliche che abbia provato; soldi ben spesi, questi miei.

 

The shooting quality: well, instead of showing the usual few shots fired, here below there is a burst of sixty, standing and with a two handed grip. To my guilt, eight are out of the target; the remains are concentrated and sufficiently close to the aimed point. I precise to have changed three times the aiming point, because the hole did not allow me to perceive the impact.

Well ... if not the best, this one it is of the most beautiful and precise replicas that have tried.

 

 

 

 

L’unico upgrade da me portato alla M9 KWA è stata la sostituzione delle guancette con una versione integrale prodotta dalla Beretta; e devo dire che l’impugnatura è migliorata di molto.

Nel futuro potrò anche sostituire canna e carrello con altre componenti in metallo… ma per ora la mia M9 funziona benissimo così…

 

The only upgrades I carried the M9 KWA it was replacing the grips with an integral version produced by Beretta, and I must say that the grip it is very much improved.

In the future I could also replace outer barrel and slide with metal parts ... but for now it works so fine my M9…

 

 

 

 

Tirando le somme:

- per il grande gioco, è un'ottima back up, a patto di avere un paio di caricatori, perché la ricarica dei BB è macchinosa

- per il reenactment moderno... beh, da una ventina d'anni è presente un po' in tutti i campi di battaglia.

- per collezione, mancano i marchi, ma il resto c'è, e veramente ben fatto.

- per tiro di precisione, manca forse di mire regolabili, ma conoscendola si ottengono rosate invidiabili, sia tirando al barattolo che al bersaglio

- per addestramento, la riproduzione dei meccanismi originali è talmente buona, da consentire di usarla anche professionalmente, per la formazione a basso costo.

 

Insomma, il voto stavolta è un 8 che sfiora il 9.

 

Summing up:

- minding to the Big Game, it is a good back-up, provided you have a couple of magazine, because the BB refilling it is cumbersome

- The modern reenactment ... Well, for twenty years the M9 it operate in all battlefields.

- For collection, apart from missing markings, the remaining it is there, and really well done.

- For precision shooting, it is missing perhaps of adjustable sights, but knowing it you will hit the bull, both in plinking or in precision shooting

- For training, the reproduction of the original mechanisms is so good, to allow use of education, for training at low cost.

 

In short, voting is an eight nearly to nine, out of ten.
