Storia dello Scorpion "real steel"
Dopo la fine della decorsa guerra mondiale, anche la Cecoslovacchia ottenne dalla Germania dei risarcimenti per i danni di guerra subiti; e fra quanto pervenne in materiali, vi fu un certo numero di pistole automatiche Mauser 712.
Queste armi furono assegnate prevalentemente alle truppe corazzate, che ne apprezzarono le ridotte dimensioni, e la possibilità di “innaffiare” da bordo dei loro veicoli l’area circostante.
Negli anni ’50 del secolo scorso, le pistole tedesche erano ormai obsolete, e le forze armate cecoslovacche decisero di procedere alla loro sostituzione.
Al momento, in seno al Patto di Varsavia l’unica arma con caratteristiche similari era la pistola automatica Stetchkin in calibro 9 mm Makarov.
Si preferì studiare una nuova arma, di produzione nazione, che, apparsa nel 1959, fu adottata ufficialmente due anni dopo, con la denominazione Samopal, Vzor 61 (mitraglietta, modello 1961), e calibrata per la munizione 7.65 mm (.32 auto).
Capace di funzionare in modalità semi ed automatica, la VZ 61, prodotta dalla Ceskoslovenska (oggi Ceska) Zbrojovka, era per molti versi e per l’epoca poco convenzionale, e, come vedremo esaminandone le caratteristiche costruttive e di funzionamento, fu la capostipite di una nuova classe di armi da fuoco.
Nonostante l’appartenenza al Patto di Varsavia, la Cecoslovacchia era una nazione tradizionalmente attiva nel mercato armiero mondiale, e conseguentemente la VZ 61 fu proposta in più versioni e calibri, anche con le ulteriori versioni:
VZ 64, in calibro .380 auto
VZ 65, in calibro 9 Makarov
VZ 68, in calibro 9x19, quest’ultima con fusto e canna leggermente allungati.
La VZ 61 era immediatamente riconoscibile rispetto alle restanti dai caricatori semilunati, anziché diritti.
All’inizio degli anni ’80, l’esercito cecoslovacco standardizzò le proprie armi corte nel calibro 9 mm Makarov, e questo diede origine ad una seconda serie di mitragliette, apparse nel corso di quel decennio: la VZ 82 (9 mm Makarov), VZ 83 (.380 auto), VZ 360 (9x19), SA 391 (versione riveduta in calibro 9x19).
Negli anni ’90, la produzione fu interrotta, ma di recente è stato ancora proposto il modello 61E.
Da ricordare anche la variante VZ 91, a colpo singolo, venduta per diversi anni anche in Italia.
La pistola automatica è stata anche prodotta su licenza nella ex Yugoslavia dalla società Crvena Zastava di Kragujevac. Una variante aggiornata fu pure adottata sotto la denominazione M-84.
After the end of World War 1, also Czechoslovakia obtained from the Germany some compensations for the endured damages of war; and a part of this material it was a sure number of Mauser 712 automatic pistol.
These weapons were mostly assigned to armored troops, who appreciated the small size and the possibility of "spraying" from their vehicles the surrounding area.
In the 50s of last century, the German pistols were by now obsolete, and the Czechoslovak Army chose to replace them. At the moment, within the Warsaw Pact the only weapon with similar characteristics was the 9 mmm Makarov caliber Stetchkin automatic pistol.
They preferred to study a new national production weapon, which appeared in 1959, and was officially adopted two years later, under the name Samopal, Vzor 61 (machine gun, model 1961), and calibrated for the 7.65 mm ammunition (.32 auto) . Able to operate in semi and full automatic, the VZ 61, produced by ÄŒeskoslovensko (Ceska today) Zbrojovka, was in many ways and for its time unconventional, and, as we examine the characteristics of construction and operation, it was the forerunner for a new class of firearms.
Although its membership to the Warsaw Pact, Czechoslovakia was a traditionally active country in the world firearms market, and consequently the VZ 61 was proposed in several versions and sizes, with additional versions:
VZ 64 in .380 Auto caliber
VZ 65 in 9 mm Makarov,
VZ 68 in 9x19 caliber,
with the latter having slightly elongated frame and barrel.
The VZ 61 was immediately recognizable compared to other, by crescents, rather than rights, magazine.
In the early '80s, the Czechoslovak army standardize their handguns for 9 mm Makarov ammunition, and this gave rise to a second set of machine guns, appeared during that decade:
the VZ 82 (9mm Makarov)
VZ 83 (.380 Auto)
VZ 360 (9x19)
SA 391 (revised in caliber 9x19).
In the '90s, the production was discontinued, but recently has been yet proposed model 61E. We should also mention the variant VZ 91, single shot, sold for several years in Italy.
The automatic pistol was also manufactured under license in the former Yugoslavia by the company Crvena Zastava of Kragujevac. An updated version was also adopted under the name M-84.
Nonostante l’origine militare, le dimensioni rilevanti, e la munizione poco potente impiegata, la VZ 61 Skorpion ha conosciuto e conosce un notevole successo, superando i 220.000 esemplari prodotti.
Anche in assenza di dati certi, sembra che se ne siano largamente forniti i servizi segreti tanto occidentali che del Patto di Varsavia. Gli esemplari venduti sul mercato civile sono poi comparsi in tutti i conflitti e le guerriglie dell’ultimo quarto dello scorso secolo, e ancora oggi sono ampiamente presenti.
In Italia, quest’arma è legata agli “anni di piombo”, in quanto utilizzata in alcuni omicidi compiuti dalle formazioni eversive; il più noto è certamente l’uccisione del presidente del consiglio Aldo Moro.
La Skorpion risulta essere stata od essere impiegata dalle forze armate di Afghanistan, Angola, Croazia, Repubblica Ceka, Egitto, Iraq, Irlanda, Israele, Libano, Libia, Montenegro, Mozambico, Olanda, Serbia, Slovakia, Uganda, Yugoslavia, e Zimbabwe.
Despite the military origin, the bulky size, and powerless ammunition used, the VZ 61 Skorpion has experienced an high success, surpassing the 220,000 produced units. Even in the absence of reliable data, it seems that if they are largely provided Western intelligence agencies so that the Warsaw Pact.

Che cosa rende unica la Skorpion?
Per provare a spiegarlo, occorre fare un passo indietro, sino agli anni in cui fu concepita.
In quel momento, la Cecoslovacchia era probabilmente la nazione in cui si producevano i migliori mitra; apparsi nel 1949, i modelli 23 e 25 presentavano caratteristiche rivoluzionarie, fra le quali l’otturatore avvolgente e l’alloggiamento del caricatore ricavato nell’impugnatura, tanto da ispirare tutta una serie di armi successive, inclusa la più famosa UZI.
Forse per questo, l’ingegnere Miroslav Rybar concepì la Skorpion mettendo assieme caratteristiche di mitra e di pistola. In particolare, l’architettura generale è quella di un mitra, con l’alloggiamento del caricatore avanzato rispetto al calcio, una porzione cospicua del fusto riservata al moto di rinculo dell’otturatore, ed un calciolo pieghevole in metallo.
L’arma, che funziona con sistema di chiusura a massa battente, spara però ad otturatore chiuso, come una pistola, s’impiega facilmente con una sola mano nel tiro semiautomatico, ed ha un dispositivo di ritardo per ridurre il rateo di fuoco.
La costruzione è metallica, con il fusto ricavato da lamiera sagomata.
Le mire sono convenzionali: anteriormente, un mirino a piolo protetto da due alette laterali (che servono anche da fermo per il calcio ripiegato) e posteriormente un alzo ad elle.
Un unico comando a leva, posto sulla sinistra del fusto, serve da sicura e selettore di tiro.
Il calcio è in legno di faggio, salvo nella variante prodotta in Yugoslavia, ove è stampato in plastica.
L’arma può essere impiegata anche con un silenziatore, che pare essere abbastanza efficace.
Oggi il calibro 7,65 pare decisamente poco potente, ma all’epoca era molto diffuso, e l’efficacia dell’arma era comunque assicurata dalla raffica, facilmente controllabile (a differenza delle pistole automatiche successivamente prodotte).

What is unique about the Skorpion?
To try to explain it, we should take a step back, until the years in which it was conceived.
At that time, Czechoslovakia was probably the nation which produced the best machine guns; appeared in 1949, MODEL 23 e 25 were showing revolutionary features, including the enveloped bolt, and the butt actijng also as magazine well, that has inspired a series of subsequent weapons, including the most famous UZI.
Perhaps for this reason, engineer Miroslav Rybar conceived Skorpion by putting together submachine gun and pistol features.
In particular, the general architecture is that of a machine gun, with the magazine well advanced compared to stock, a substantial portion of the frame reserved for the recoil motion of the bolt, and a folding metal butt. The weapon, which was blowback operated, shooted having the bolt closed, like a semiautomatic pistol. It takes easily just with one hand when firing semi-automatic and has a delay device to reduce the rate of fire. The construction is metal, with the frame made from shaped plate .
The sights are conventional: in front, a pin sight protected by two side wings (which also serve as a stop for the stock folded down) and an L shaped rear sight. A single control lever on the left side of the receiver serves both as a safe and fire mode selector. The butt is made by beech, except for the version produced in Yugoslavia, where it is molded plastic.
The weapon can also be used with a silencer, which seems to be quite effective.
Today 7,65 ammunizione seems decidedly little powerful, but to the age it was much diffusing, and the effectiveness of the weapon was however assured by the burst, easy controlable (unlike automatic pistols manufactured after).

La replica - the replica
La Jing Gong, JG o Golden Bow, è una ditta cinese ben nota nel mondo softair: le sue repliche godono in genere fama di onesti compromessi fra prezzo e qualità, anche grazie ad un processo di “reverse engineering” applicato a prodotti nipponici. La valutazione offerta su diversi forum internazionali è in genere concorde nell’affermare che le proposte più recenti si dimostrano affidabili ed efficienti.
Con tutto questo, a convincermi in un acquisto repentino non è stato il produttore, ma il prodotto.
La Skorpion è un’arma dall’aspetto certamente antiquato, ma efficiente e con buona personalità (se questo termine si può applicare ad un oggetto).
Nel mondo del softair, ne esistevano delle repliche, però datate, e quasi introvabili, sino alla comparsa della VZ61 Marui, molto bella, ma anche decisamente costosa.
Così, quando ad un terzo di quel prezzo ho visto annunciata da un commerciante sanmarinese la replica Jing Gong, ho agito d’impulso, e l’ho acquistata…
The Jing Gong, JG or Golden Bow, a Chinese firm, it is well known in the airsoft world: his products generally have the reputation of honest compromise between price and quality, thanks to a process of reverse engineering applied to Japanese products. The assessment offered on various international forum generally agrees that its most recent proposals prove reliable and efficient.
With all this, to convince me into a sudden buying it was not the manufacturer, but the product.
The Skorpion is certainly an old-fashioned-looking weapon, but efficient and having a good personality (if that term can be applied to an object). In the world of softair, there were still its replicas, but dated, and almost impossible to find, until the appearance of Marui VZ61's, very beautiful but also very expensive.
So when I've seen announced form a San Marino trader the Jing Gong replication for a third of that price, I acted on impulse, and I bought it…

Nel tempo tecnico necessario (due giorni), a casa mi è arrivato il pacchetto.

Spent the technical time needed (two days) and I got the package at home.
Aprendolo, ho trovato una confezione di buone dimensioni, con una box art decisamente ben studiata, anche se in parte coperta da adesivi con la sigla del produttore e dell’importatore Galaxy.
Anche l’interno è decisamente più curato della media: una struttura in polistirolo sagomato ospita una fodera fustellata in cartone, mentre gli accessori sono ben riposti in una ulteriore piccola scatola di cartone.
Opening it, I have found a confection of good dimensions, with a decidedly very studied box art, even if partially covered from stickers reporting the acronym of the producer, and the one of Galaxy importer.
Also the inside is decidedly more cured of the average: styrofoam shaped houses a punched cardboard lining, while the accessories are well placed in another small cardboard box.
Inizio a tirar fuori, nell’ordine:
Cominciamo proprio da questo ultimo, che è illustrato, con testi in cinese ed inglese.
A dirla tutta, è uno fra i migliori che mi sia capitato di vedere, e si spinge sino a fornire dati tecnici quali la durata presunta del motore elettrico, stimata fra i 50 ed i 60.000 colpi. Non manca una guida all’individuazione dei guasti, ed un esploso (a dire il vero non troppo comprensibile).

Dopo aver messo sotto carica la batteria (e una fra le prossime spese sarà il farmi realizzare un raccordo per utilizzare il mio scarica e carica batterie, anziché l’arnese della scatola), inizio ad esaminare rapidamente il manuale, e quindi la replica.
L’originale copiato a mio avviso è la VZ 61E in calibro 7,65 mm e col caricatore da 20 proiettili.
All’esame del metro e della bilancia, la replica denuncia un peso complessivo di 1223 grammi, 110 dei quali costituiti dal caricatore; una lunghezza di 27 centimetri; una altezza di 16,8 centimetri a caricatore innestato; infine, uno spessore medio di 31,2 e massimo di 44 millimetri.
La riproduzione, insomma, è fedele all’originale. Anche i dettagli costruttivi sono presenti in modo a mio avviso corretto per forma e dimensione.

After having put under charge the battery (and one of the upcoming expenses I will make it will be a link to use my charger, instead of the supplied one), I have quickly reviewed the manual, and then the replica.
The original is in my opinion the VZ 61E 7.65 mm caliber and with the full 20 rounds magazine.

Salvo quest’ultima parte, il tutto è dipinto con vernice nera opaca. Scuotendo la replica, non si sentono cigolii o cedimenti di alcun genere.
I comandi replicano quelli dell’arma originale per disposizione e funzione.
La leva del selettore e della sicurezza, posta sulla parte posteriore sinistra del fusto, ha le stesse tre posizioni, indicate nello stesso modo: in posizione centrale (cifra 0) è in sicurezza, ruotata all’indietro (cifra 1) permette il tiro semiautomatico, e portata in avanti (cifra 20) la raffica. La rotazione, comandata dal pollice, trova una certa resistenza.
The building material is mixed; receiver , stock, and almost all the small parts are metal, while the receiver cover it is molded in ABS, as the internal structure of the magazine, and the butt.

La superficie è forse troppo liscia, ma le zigrinature distribuite sull’intera superficie, e due incavi per l’appoggio del pollice, aiutano alla presa; L’aspetto plasticoso stavolta rende fede a quello dell’impugnatura originale.

The outer barrel correctly reproduces the real barrel, with its rifling, and as anticipated, can be substituted with a threaded metal fitting, in order to install a silencer or an activator for phosphorescent BB's.
I due pulsanti, scorrenti ai lati dell'upper receiver, e che nella realtà arretrano l’otturatore, qui comandano una slitta (normalmente tenuta chiusa da una molla) che apre il foro di espulsione, fornendo accesso alla rotella di regolazione dell’hop up. Il vano non è grandissimo, ma a mani nude la taratura è una operazione abbastanza semplice.

Le regolazioni sono queste:

per abbassare il punto di mira, avvitare in senso antiorario
per portare a destra il punto di mira, spostare a sinistra il mirino
per portare a sinistra il punto di mira, spostare a destra il mirino.
How it works the front sight trimming?
The front sight has a threaded cylindrical base, and its axis is eccentric to that of the same base.
The regulations are these:
in order to raise the sight point, screw clockwise
in order to wind down the sight point, screw counter-clockwise sense
in order to carry to right the sight point, move on the left the sigth

Il calciolo originale è in filo metallico sagomato; qui, mi sembra sia invece prodotto per fusione. Per quanto ho potuto provare, mi pare robusto… ma meglio non spingere più di tanto simili esperimenti.
Imperniato su un apposito supporto posto all’estremità posteriore del receiver, in posizione di riposo il calcio ruota in avanti, fissandosi a due incavi ricavati esternamente alle alette di protezione del mirino. Per estenderlo, lo si divarica e ruota, sino a che un risalto sul suo gambo non entra in un apposito incavo sulla base.

As I experienced, it feels strong ... but better not push it too much.

Allo sgancio del caricatore, due BB rimangono nel condotto di alimentazione della replica; ne resta invece una dozzina in quello del caricatore, il cui rilascio avviene premendo un pulsante, sul fianco sinistro del fusto. L’innesto trova una lieve resistenza, e bisogna forzare un poco per sentire lo scatto del fermo che lo trattiene nel suo alloggiamento.
Devo segnalare che, a mia conoscenza ed almeno nella penisola, per questa replica non è possibile acquistare caricatori di riserva; si possono però adattare quelli a tamburo prodotti dalla Well.
La scina, una volta installata, rimane saldamente in sede; anche se di materiale plastico, le sue dimensioni ridotte non la rendono, a mio avviso, particolarmente esposta a rotture. Ho provato ad installarvi un puntatore laser ipereconomico (per intenderci, di quelli che fornivano con le pistoline a molla un po’ di anni orsono, non tarabile), con risultati a mio avviso estremamente soddisfacenti.
Releasing the magazine, two BB remain in the feed line of the reply; also a dozen could be find into the magazine, that could be released by pressing a button on the left side of the receiver. The Picatinny rail, once installed, remains steadly fixed; although made by plastic, its small size does not make it, in my opinion, particularly susceptible to breakage. E passiamo allo smontaggio; una procedura non indicata dalla casa produttrice, che per la manutenzione si limita a suggerire di pulire la canna con uno scovolino (di cui la confezione è priva) e una pezzuola in tela, e di oliare il condotto di rifornimento dei pallini.
Il primo passo è quello di allentare la vita a brugola che ferma il perno di smontaggio, liberando ed estraendo quest’ultimo. Si deve svitare anche l’outer barrel.
Fatto questo, è possibile sollevare con un po’ di attenzione e separare il gruppo canna e receiver.
Infine, è possibile estrarre dal loro alloggiamento la canna e la molla che la circonda.
Due precauzioni, si devono prendere.
Una riguarda due fili elettrici che corrono sul lato destro del gear box, senza alcun fermo o protezione; una trazione decisa potrebbe strapparli.
La seconda avvertenza è per la leva del selettore, che è solamente appoggiata su una cremagliera; senza alcun ritegno, può cadere, perdendosi o danneggiandosi.
And let's disassembly; a procedure not described by the manufacturer, that merely suggest to clean the battle with a rod (of which the packaging is free) and a Burlap patch, and lubricate the BB supply duct.
The first step is to loosen the Allen screw which stops the disassembly latch, releasing and extracting this latter. You must unscrew also the outer barrel.
When this has been done, with a bit of attention you can raise and separate the barrel group cane from the receiver.
Finally, you can extract from their housing the barrel and the spring that surrounds it.
Two precautions must be taken.
One concerns two electric wires that run on the right side of the gear box, without any holding or protection; a traction may snatch them.
The second warning is for the selector lever, which is only supported on a rack; without any restraint it could fall, going loose or damaged.

La taratura delle mire e dell’hop up ha richiesto un po’ di tempo, ma ho constatato che ogni cambiamento apportato incideva realmente sulla precisione; un buon segno, secondo me.
La replica si può impugnare come una pistola, a due mani, oppure come una mitraglietta, usando senza paura il caricatore come seconda impugnatura.
The test has been made with different targets at distances between four and eight meters, both in semi and full automatic burst. Calibration of sights and hop up took a bit of time, but I found that every change made a real impact on accuracy, a good sign, I think.
Replication may be handled as a gun with both hands aroung grip, or as a machine gun, using without fear the magazine as a second grip.

Bene, siamo al momento dei giudizi, vero?
Iniziamo dall’impiego nel Grande Gioco; come back up, specialmente con qualche caricatore da 100 colpi e un paio di buone batterie, questa riproduzione di pistola automatica è decisamente interessante.
Tenuto anche conto del costo, di poco superiore ad una “AEP” ACM, già da confezione la V61 offre il un caricatore di capacità almeno doppia, ed una batteria più resistente.

Let's start from the use in the Great Game; as back up, especially it mated with some 100 shots magazines and a couple of good batteries, this reproduction it is definitely interesting.
Taking also into account the cost, little more than an ACM "AEP", already by packaging the V61 offers a magazine capacity at least double, and a more resistant battery.
L’unico impiccio è il trasporto, perché non è facile trovare una fondina adatta, e non vi sono punti di aggancio per assicurarla con cinghie o cavi.
Reputo comunque che, usata in partite a distanza ravvicinata, possa dire la sua anche quale strumento primario di gioco.
Per usarla nel softair game, la Skorpion della Golden Bow a mio avviso richiede comunque un po’ di tune up, da mani esperte come quelle del nostro EtaBeta.
The only hassle it is concerning the transport, because it is not easy to find a suitable holster, and there are no attaching points for slings or straps.
I believe however that, used in close quarter games, it could be an interesting performer.
To use it in airsoft game, Skorpion of Golden Bow in my opinion still requires a little tune up, by experts hands such as those of our EtaBeta.
Come replica da collezione, e per reenactment, questa AEP è certamente buona. A parte i marchi, l’aspetto esteriore e le dimensioni sono fedeli all’originale, e la sensazione di “reale” è accresciuta dal peso, come dalle componenti metalliche.
As a reply for collectors and reenactment, this AEP is certainly good. Apart from the marks, the appearance and size are faithful to the original, and the feeling of "real" is increased by the weight fof its metal parts.
Lascio per ultimo il barattolare, perché secondo me è veramente la sua vocazione innata.
Il tiro a bersagli di circostanza diverte, scarica dallo stress, permette un sano esercizio fisico e, usando in esterni pallini biodegradabili, è anche uno sport ecologicamente perfetto, che rispetta la natura e ritempra l’uomo o la donna che lo pratica… difficile chiedere di più, salvo una bella grigliata fumante a chiudere la sessione di tiro…
I leave plinkin as last, because I think it's really its innate vocation. The plinking it is fun, stress relaxing, allows a healthy exercise, and using biodegradable BB in outdoor shots, it results also environmentally perfect.
It restore the man or woman who practices it; difficult to ask more... except a nice steaming grilled to close the shooting session…

Negli anni ’50 del secolo scorso, le pistole tedesche erano ormai obsolete, e le forze armate cecoslovacche decisero di procedere alla loro sostituzione.
Al momento, in seno al Patto di Varsavia l’unica arma con caratteristiche similari era la pistola automatica Stetchkin in calibro 9 mm Makarov.
Si preferì studiare una nuova arma, di produzione nazione, che, apparsa nel 1959, fu adottata ufficialmente due anni dopo, con la denominazione Samopal, Vzor 61 (mitraglietta, modello 1961), e calibrata per la munizione 7.65 mm (.32 auto).
Capace di funzionare in modalità semi ed automatica, la VZ 61, prodotta dalla Ceskoslovenska (oggi Ceska) Zbrojovka, era per molti versi e per l’epoca poco convenzionale, e, come vedremo esaminandone le caratteristiche costruttive e di funzionamento, fu la capostipite di una nuova classe di armi da fuoco.
Nonostante l’appartenenza al Patto di Varsavia, la Cecoslovacchia era una nazione tradizionalmente attiva nel mercato armiero mondiale, e conseguentemente la VZ 61 fu proposta in più versioni e calibri, anche con le ulteriori versioni:
VZ 64, in calibro .380 auto
VZ 65, in calibro 9 Makarov
VZ 68, in calibro 9x19, quest’ultima con fusto e canna leggermente allungati.
La VZ 61 era immediatamente riconoscibile rispetto alle restanti dai caricatori semilunati, anziché diritti.
All’inizio degli anni ’80, l’esercito cecoslovacco standardizzò le proprie armi corte nel calibro 9 mm Makarov, e questo diede origine ad una seconda serie di mitragliette, apparse nel corso di quel decennio: la VZ 82 (9 mm Makarov), VZ 83 (.380 auto), VZ 360 (9x19), SA 391 (versione riveduta in calibro 9x19).
Negli anni ’90, la produzione fu interrotta, ma di recente è stato ancora proposto il modello 61E.
Da ricordare anche la variante VZ 91, a colpo singolo, venduta per diversi anni anche in Italia.
La pistola automatica è stata anche prodotta su licenza nella ex Yugoslavia dalla società Crvena Zastava di Kragujevac. Una variante aggiornata fu pure adottata sotto la denominazione M-84.
After the end of World War 1, also Czechoslovakia obtained from the Germany some compensations for the endured damages of war; and a part of this material it was a sure number of Mauser 712 automatic pistol.
These weapons were mostly assigned to armored troops, who appreciated the small size and the possibility of "spraying" from their vehicles the surrounding area.
In the 50s of last century, the German pistols were by now obsolete, and the Czechoslovak Army chose to replace them. At the moment, within the Warsaw Pact the only weapon with similar characteristics was the 9 mmm Makarov caliber Stetchkin automatic pistol.
They preferred to study a new national production weapon, which appeared in 1959, and was officially adopted two years later, under the name Samopal, Vzor 61 (machine gun, model 1961), and calibrated for the 7.65 mm ammunition (.32 auto) . Able to operate in semi and full automatic, the VZ 61, produced by ÄŒeskoslovensko (Ceska today) Zbrojovka, was in many ways and for its time unconventional, and, as we examine the characteristics of construction and operation, it was the forerunner for a new class of firearms.
Although its membership to the Warsaw Pact, Czechoslovakia was a traditionally active country in the world firearms market, and consequently the VZ 61 was proposed in several versions and sizes, with additional versions:
VZ 64 in .380 Auto caliber
VZ 65 in 9 mm Makarov,
VZ 68 in 9x19 caliber,
with the latter having slightly elongated frame and barrel.
The VZ 61 was immediately recognizable compared to other, by crescents, rather than rights, magazine.
In the early '80s, the Czechoslovak army standardize their handguns for 9 mm Makarov ammunition, and this gave rise to a second set of machine guns, appeared during that decade:

SA 391 (revised in caliber 9x19).
In the '90s, the production was discontinued, but recently has been yet proposed model 61E. We should also mention the variant VZ 91, single shot, sold for several years in Italy.
The automatic pistol was also manufactured under license in the former Yugoslavia by the company Crvena Zastava of Kragujevac. An updated version was also adopted under the name M-84.
Nonostante l’origine militare, le dimensioni rilevanti, e la munizione poco potente impiegata, la VZ 61 Skorpion ha conosciuto e conosce un notevole successo, superando i 220.000 esemplari prodotti.

In Italia, quest’arma è legata agli “anni di piombo”, in quanto utilizzata in alcuni omicidi compiuti dalle formazioni eversive; il più noto è certamente l’uccisione del presidente del consiglio Aldo Moro.
La Skorpion risulta essere stata od essere impiegata dalle forze armate di Afghanistan, Angola, Croazia, Repubblica Ceka, Egitto, Iraq, Irlanda, Israele, Libano, Libia, Montenegro, Mozambico, Olanda, Serbia, Slovakia, Uganda, Yugoslavia, e Zimbabwe.
Despite the military origin, the bulky size, and powerless ammunition used, the VZ 61 Skorpion has experienced an high success, surpassing the 220,000 produced units. Even in the absence of reliable data, it seems that if they are largely provided Western intelligence agencies so that the Warsaw Pact.
Those sold on the civilian market, it appeared in all conflicts and guerrilla wars of the last quarter of former century, and they are still widely present.
In Italy, this weapon is linked to the "leaden years", as used in some murders committed by subversive formations, the most famous is certainly the assassination of the Prime Minister Aldo Moro,.
The Skorpion is cited to be used by the armed forces of Afghanistan, Angola, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Mozambique, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovakia, Uganda, Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe.
La Cezka Sbrojovka ora ha due Scorpioni nel suo catalogo: accanto al CZ 61 E, propone il CZ SCORPION EVO 3 A1, un Personal Defense Weapon di ultima generazione, con struttura in polimeri, raffica controllata, funzionamento a recupero totale di gas e chiusura a massa. Che cosa rende unica la Skorpion?
Per provare a spiegarlo, occorre fare un passo indietro, sino agli anni in cui fu concepita.
In quel momento, la Cecoslovacchia era probabilmente la nazione in cui si producevano i migliori mitra; apparsi nel 1949, i modelli 23 e 25 presentavano caratteristiche rivoluzionarie, fra le quali l’otturatore avvolgente e l’alloggiamento del caricatore ricavato nell’impugnatura, tanto da ispirare tutta una serie di armi successive, inclusa la più famosa UZI.
Forse per questo, l’ingegnere Miroslav Rybar concepì la Skorpion mettendo assieme caratteristiche di mitra e di pistola. In particolare, l’architettura generale è quella di un mitra, con l’alloggiamento del caricatore avanzato rispetto al calcio, una porzione cospicua del fusto riservata al moto di rinculo dell’otturatore, ed un calciolo pieghevole in metallo.
L’arma, che funziona con sistema di chiusura a massa battente, spara però ad otturatore chiuso, come una pistola, s’impiega facilmente con una sola mano nel tiro semiautomatico, ed ha un dispositivo di ritardo per ridurre il rateo di fuoco.
La costruzione è metallica, con il fusto ricavato da lamiera sagomata.
Le mire sono convenzionali: anteriormente, un mirino a piolo protetto da due alette laterali (che servono anche da fermo per il calcio ripiegato) e posteriormente un alzo ad elle.
Un unico comando a leva, posto sulla sinistra del fusto, serve da sicura e selettore di tiro.
Il calcio è in legno di faggio, salvo nella variante prodotta in Yugoslavia, ove è stampato in plastica.
L’arma può essere impiegata anche con un silenziatore, che pare essere abbastanza efficace.
Oggi il calibro 7,65 pare decisamente poco potente, ma all’epoca era molto diffuso, e l’efficacia dell’arma era comunque assicurata dalla raffica, facilmente controllabile (a differenza delle pistole automatiche successivamente prodotte).
The Cezka Sbrojovka has now two Scorpions in its catalog: next to the CZ 61, it proposes the CZ SCORPION EVO 3 A1, a latest generation Personal Defense Weapon built on polymer frame, controlled bursts, total gas recovery operation. What is unique about the Skorpion?
To try to explain it, we should take a step back, until the years in which it was conceived.
At that time, Czechoslovakia was probably the nation which produced the best machine guns; appeared in 1949, MODEL 23 e 25 were showing revolutionary features, including the enveloped bolt, and the butt actijng also as magazine well, that has inspired a series of subsequent weapons, including the most famous UZI.
Perhaps for this reason, engineer Miroslav Rybar conceived Skorpion by putting together submachine gun and pistol features.
In particular, the general architecture is that of a machine gun, with the magazine well advanced compared to stock, a substantial portion of the frame reserved for the recoil motion of the bolt, and a folding metal butt. The weapon, which was blowback operated, shooted having the bolt closed, like a semiautomatic pistol. It takes easily just with one hand when firing semi-automatic and has a delay device to reduce the rate of fire. The construction is metal, with the frame made from shaped plate .
The sights are conventional: in front, a pin sight protected by two side wings (which also serve as a stop for the stock folded down) and an L shaped rear sight. A single control lever on the left side of the receiver serves both as a safe and fire mode selector. The butt is made by beech, except for the version produced in Yugoslavia, where it is molded plastic.
The weapon can also be used with a silencer, which seems to be quite effective.
Today 7,65 ammunizione seems decidedly little powerful, but to the age it was much diffusing, and the effectiveness of the weapon was however assured by the burst, easy controlable (unlike automatic pistols manufactured after).

La Jing Gong, JG o Golden Bow, è una ditta cinese ben nota nel mondo softair: le sue repliche godono in genere fama di onesti compromessi fra prezzo e qualità, anche grazie ad un processo di “reverse engineering” applicato a prodotti nipponici. La valutazione offerta su diversi forum internazionali è in genere concorde nell’affermare che le proposte più recenti si dimostrano affidabili ed efficienti.
Con tutto questo, a convincermi in un acquisto repentino non è stato il produttore, ma il prodotto.
La Skorpion è un’arma dall’aspetto certamente antiquato, ma efficiente e con buona personalità (se questo termine si può applicare ad un oggetto).
Nel mondo del softair, ne esistevano delle repliche, però datate, e quasi introvabili, sino alla comparsa della VZ61 Marui, molto bella, ma anche decisamente costosa.
Così, quando ad un terzo di quel prezzo ho visto annunciata da un commerciante sanmarinese la replica Jing Gong, ho agito d’impulso, e l’ho acquistata…
The Jing Gong, JG or Golden Bow, a Chinese firm, it is well known in the airsoft world: his products generally have the reputation of honest compromise between price and quality, thanks to a process of reverse engineering applied to Japanese products. The assessment offered on various international forum generally agrees that its most recent proposals prove reliable and efficient.
With all this, to convince me into a sudden buying it was not the manufacturer, but the product.
The Skorpion is certainly an old-fashioned-looking weapon, but efficient and having a good personality (if that term can be applied to an object). In the world of softair, there were still its replicas, but dated, and almost impossible to find, until the appearance of Marui VZ61's, very beautiful but also very expensive.
So when I've seen announced form a San Marino trader the Jing Gong replication for a third of that price, I acted on impulse, and I bought it…

Aprendolo, ho trovato una confezione di buone dimensioni, con una box art decisamente ben studiata, anche se in parte coperta da adesivi con la sigla del produttore e dell’importatore Galaxy.
Anche l’interno è decisamente più curato della media: una struttura in polistirolo sagomato ospita una fodera fustellata in cartone, mentre gli accessori sono ben riposti in una ulteriore piccola scatola di cartone.
Opening it, I have found a confection of good dimensions, with a decidedly very studied box art, even if partially covered from stickers reporting the acronym of the producer, and the one of Galaxy importer.
Also the inside is decidedly more cured of the average: styrofoam shaped houses a punched cardboard lining, while the accessories are well placed in another small cardboard box.

Cominciamo proprio da questo ultimo, che è illustrato, con testi in cinese ed inglese.
A dirla tutta, è uno fra i migliori che mi sia capitato di vedere, e si spinge sino a fornire dati tecnici quali la durata presunta del motore elettrico, stimata fra i 50 ed i 60.000 colpi. Non manca una guida all’individuazione dei guasti, ed un esploso (a dire il vero non troppo comprensibile).

Dopo aver messo sotto carica la batteria (e una fra le prossime spese sarà il farmi realizzare un raccordo per utilizzare il mio scarica e carica batterie, anziché l’arnese della scatola), inizio ad esaminare rapidamente il manuale, e quindi la replica.
L’originale copiato a mio avviso è la VZ 61E in calibro 7,65 mm e col caricatore da 20 proiettili.
All’esame del metro e della bilancia, la replica denuncia un peso complessivo di 1223 grammi, 110 dei quali costituiti dal caricatore; una lunghezza di 27 centimetri; una altezza di 16,8 centimetri a caricatore innestato; infine, uno spessore medio di 31,2 e massimo di 44 millimetri.
La riproduzione, insomma, è fedele all’originale. Anche i dettagli costruttivi sono presenti in modo a mio avviso corretto per forma e dimensione.
Call to delay.
After having put under charge the battery (and one of the upcoming expenses I will make it will be a link to use my charger, instead of the supplied one), I have quickly reviewed the manual, and then the replica.
The original is in my opinion the VZ 61E 7.65 mm caliber and with the full 20 rounds magazine.

Salvo quest’ultima parte, il tutto è dipinto con vernice nera opaca. Scuotendo la replica, non si sentono cigolii o cedimenti di alcun genere.
I comandi replicano quelli dell’arma originale per disposizione e funzione.
La leva del selettore e della sicurezza, posta sulla parte posteriore sinistra del fusto, ha le stesse tre posizioni, indicate nello stesso modo: in posizione centrale (cifra 0) è in sicurezza, ruotata all’indietro (cifra 1) permette il tiro semiautomatico, e portata in avanti (cifra 20) la raffica. La rotazione, comandata dal pollice, trova una certa resistenza.

La superficie è forse troppo liscia, ma le zigrinature distribuite sull’intera superficie, e due incavi per l’appoggio del pollice, aiutano alla presa; L’aspetto plasticoso stavolta rende fede a quello dell’impugnatura originale.

I due pulsanti, scorrenti ai lati dell'upper receiver, e che nella realtà arretrano l’otturatore, qui comandano una slitta (normalmente tenuta chiusa da una molla) che apre il foro di espulsione, fornendo accesso alla rotella di regolazione dell’hop up. Il vano non è grandissimo, ma a mani nude la taratura è una operazione abbastanza semplice.

How it works the front sight trimming?
The front sight has a threaded cylindrical base, and its axis is eccentric to that of the same base.
The regulations are these:

Il calciolo originale è in filo metallico sagomato; qui, mi sembra sia invece prodotto per fusione. Per quanto ho potuto provare, mi pare robusto… ma meglio non spingere più di tanto simili esperimenti.
Imperniato su un apposito supporto posto all’estremità posteriore del receiver, in posizione di riposo il calcio ruota in avanti, fissandosi a due incavi ricavati esternamente alle alette di protezione del mirino. Per estenderlo, lo si divarica e ruota, sino a che un risalto sul suo gambo non entra in un apposito incavo sulla base.
The original butt is made by shaped steel wire; here, I think it is rather produced by fusion.
As I experienced, it feels strong ... but better not push it too much.

Sulla replica ho individuato due soli marchi, posti sul fianco sinistro del receiver: il logo della JG, ed il numero di serie 200812753, che, per ipotesi indicherebbe il 573° modello prodotto nello scorso dicembre… ma è solo fantasia, credo.

Allo sgancio del caricatore, due BB rimangono nel condotto di alimentazione della replica; ne resta invece una dozzina in quello del caricatore, il cui rilascio avviene premendo un pulsante, sul fianco sinistro del fusto. L’innesto trova una lieve resistenza, e bisogna forzare un poco per sentire lo scatto del fermo che lo trattiene nel suo alloggiamento.
Devo segnalare che, a mia conoscenza ed almeno nella penisola, per questa replica non è possibile acquistare caricatori di riserva; si possono però adattare quelli a tamburo prodotti dalla Well.
La scina, una volta installata, rimane saldamente in sede; anche se di materiale plastico, le sue dimensioni ridotte non la rendono, a mio avviso, particolarmente esposta a rotture. Ho provato ad installarvi un puntatore laser ipereconomico (per intenderci, di quelli che fornivano con le pistoline a molla un po’ di anni orsono, non tarabile), con risultati a mio avviso estremamente soddisfacenti.

I tried to install an ipercheap laser pointer (for instance, those who were providing with the springer guns some years ago, not adjustable), with results, in my view, extremely satisfactory.
E passiamo allo smontaggio; una procedura non indicata dalla casa produttrice, che per la manutenzione si limita a suggerire di pulire la canna con uno scovolino (di cui la confezione è priva) e una pezzuola in tela, e di oliare il condotto di rifornimento dei pallini.
Il primo passo è quello di allentare la vita a brugola che ferma il perno di smontaggio, liberando ed estraendo quest’ultimo. Si deve svitare anche l’outer barrel.
Fatto questo, è possibile sollevare con un po’ di attenzione e separare il gruppo canna e receiver.
Infine, è possibile estrarre dal loro alloggiamento la canna e la molla che la circonda.
Due precauzioni, si devono prendere.
Una riguarda due fili elettrici che corrono sul lato destro del gear box, senza alcun fermo o protezione; una trazione decisa potrebbe strapparli.
La seconda avvertenza è per la leva del selettore, che è solamente appoggiata su una cremagliera; senza alcun ritegno, può cadere, perdendosi o danneggiandosi.
And let's disassembly; a procedure not described by the manufacturer, that merely suggest to clean the battle with a rod (of which the packaging is free) and a Burlap patch, and lubricate the BB supply duct.
The first step is to loosen the Allen screw which stops the disassembly latch, releasing and extracting this latter. You must unscrew also the outer barrel.
When this has been done, with a bit of attention you can raise and separate the barrel group cane from the receiver.
Finally, you can extract from their housing the barrel and the spring that surrounds it.
Two precautions must be taken.
One concerns two electric wires that run on the right side of the gear box, without any holding or protection; a traction may snatch them.
The second warning is for the selector lever, which is only supported on a rack; without any restraint it could fall, going loose or damaged.

La taratura delle mire e dell’hop up ha richiesto un po’ di tempo, ma ho constatato che ogni cambiamento apportato incideva realmente sulla precisione; un buon segno, secondo me.
La replica si può impugnare come una pistola, a due mani, oppure come una mitraglietta, usando senza paura il caricatore come seconda impugnatura.
The test has been made with different targets at distances between four and eight meters, both in semi and full automatic burst. Calibration of sights and hop up took a bit of time, but I found that every change made a real impact on accuracy, a good sign, I think.
Replication may be handled as a gun with both hands aroung grip, or as a machine gun, using without fear the magazine as a second grip.

Il valore più elevato è di 85,5 m/s, quello inferiore di 79,4 m/s; scartandoli entrambi, la velocità media è di 82,57 m/s, pari a 0.6817 Joule. La potenza la trovo adeguata alle caratteristiche meccaniche di questa AEG, amaloghe a quelle di una AEP.
Bene, siamo al momento dei giudizi, vero?
Iniziamo dall’impiego nel Grande Gioco; come back up, specialmente con qualche caricatore da 100 colpi e un paio di buone batterie, questa riproduzione di pistola automatica è decisamente interessante.
Tenuto anche conto del costo, di poco superiore ad una “AEP” ACM, già da confezione la V61 offre il un caricatore di capacità almeno doppia, ed una batteria più resistente.

Let's start from the use in the Great Game; as back up, especially it mated with some 100 shots magazines and a couple of good batteries, this reproduction it is definitely interesting.
Taking also into account the cost, little more than an ACM "AEP", already by packaging the V61 offers a magazine capacity at least double, and a more resistant battery.
L’unico impiccio è il trasporto, perché non è facile trovare una fondina adatta, e non vi sono punti di aggancio per assicurarla con cinghie o cavi.
Reputo comunque che, usata in partite a distanza ravvicinata, possa dire la sua anche quale strumento primario di gioco.
Per usarla nel softair game, la Skorpion della Golden Bow a mio avviso richiede comunque un po’ di tune up, da mani esperte come quelle del nostro EtaBeta.
The only hassle it is concerning the transport, because it is not easy to find a suitable holster, and there are no attaching points for slings or straps.
I believe however that, used in close quarter games, it could be an interesting performer.
To use it in airsoft game, Skorpion of Golden Bow in my opinion still requires a little tune up, by experts hands such as those of our EtaBeta.
Come replica da collezione, e per reenactment, questa AEP è certamente buona. A parte i marchi, l’aspetto esteriore e le dimensioni sono fedeli all’originale, e la sensazione di “reale” è accresciuta dal peso, come dalle componenti metalliche.
As a reply for collectors and reenactment, this AEP is certainly good. Apart from the marks, the appearance and size are faithful to the original, and the feeling of "real" is increased by the weight fof its metal parts.
Lascio per ultimo il barattolare, perché secondo me è veramente la sua vocazione innata.
Il tiro a bersagli di circostanza diverte, scarica dallo stress, permette un sano esercizio fisico e, usando in esterni pallini biodegradabili, è anche uno sport ecologicamente perfetto, che rispetta la natura e ritempra l’uomo o la donna che lo pratica… difficile chiedere di più, salvo una bella grigliata fumante a chiudere la sessione di tiro…
I leave plinkin as last, because I think it's really its innate vocation. The plinking it is fun, stress relaxing, allows a healthy exercise, and using biodegradable BB in outdoor shots, it results also environmentally perfect.
It restore the man or woman who practices it; difficult to ask more... except a nice steaming grilled to close the shooting session…
Se bisogna dare un voto… almeno un sette e mezzo questa cecoslovacca cinese se lo merita proprio, e magari un otto, guardando con attenzione al portafoglio.
If you need to give it a vote ... at least a seven and a half this Chinese Czechoslovakian it deserves its own, and maybe an eight, watching carefully to vallet.
