By the cooperation between Etabeta&SniperMK were born many accessories for our AEGs...let's go to know them!

 

A circa 800 ASG smontate da quanto, nel 1994, ho cominciato a giocare a soft air e ad interessarmi alle meccaniche delle ASG, ho perso il conto delle prove, modifiche ed esperimenti fatti, alla ricerca del miglior compromesso tecnico per ottenere ASG affidabili e performanti.

Molte prove sono risultate negative, altre hanno riscosso successo e ne sono riprova le circa 6500 molle note come “Etabeta”, prodotte dal 1999 in varie versioni.
La quantità di appunti, schizzi e idee che ho avuto modo di accumulare in questi anni e l’esperienza maturata potevano rimanere semplice bagaglio personale se non fosse stato per il recente incontro con lo staff direttivo dell’azienda italiana SniperMK con i cui tecnici ho condiviso i miei “appunti”.
Fatto il punto, SniperMK ha messo in produzione una serie di componenti destinate all’ottimizzazione dei Gear Box delle ASG, tenendo in considerazione anche i miei suggerimenti, volti ad ottenere prodotti semplici, efficaci ed efficienti il cui scopo sia quello di semplificare la vita di chi si cimenta in preparazione di ASG ovvero di chi, facendo riparazioni o customizzazioni per professione, non intenda smontare decine di volte un Gear Box per raggiungere il giusto grado di efficienza.

Counting about 800 disassembled ASG from 1994, when I started playing air soft and become interested in the ASG mechanics, I lost count of the tests, modifications and experiments I have done, looking for the best technical compromise in order to obtain reliable and efficient ASG’s.
Many tests drove to no result, others have been successful and this may be confirmed by about the 6500 springs known as "Etabeta", produced since 1999 in various versions.
The amount of notes, sketches and ideas that I was able to accumulate over the years acould remains a simple personal baggage if it were not for the recent meeting with the management team of the Italian brand SniperMK, with whom I shared those my technical "notes".
Made a starting point, SniperMK put into production a series of components designed to optimize the ASG Gear Box, taking into consideration my suggestions in order to keep products simple, effective and efficient, and whose purpose must be to simplify life to all who engages in the preparation of ASG or to whom, that doing repairs or customizations by profession, does not intend to dismantle dozens of times a Gear Box for achieving the right level of efficiency.
 

LA TESTA PISTONE - THE PISTON HEAD

 


Il primo prodotto nato da questa sinergia è la Testa Pistone Antivuoto SniperMK.
Chi ha l’occhio attento, noterà che i fori radiali praticati sulla faccia anteriore della testa pistone, rispetto alle teste pistone attualmente più diffuse, sono spostati verso l’esterno della circonferenza della testa.
Le teste pistone ora più diffuse, hanno i fori che servono a garantire l’effetto antivuoto nella fase di aspirazione, spostati verso il centro della circonferenza.
Centinaia di prove, test e rilevamenti che ho eseguito, mi hanno convinto che la scelta dei fori spostati verso il centro è all’origine di frequentissimi malfunzionamenti nelle ASG e di irregolare costanza nella resa delle stesse, per quanto riguarda le misurazioni dell’energia.
Infatti, ho constatato che in questo tipo di teste, la tenuta, anche quando sembra ottimale, di fatto non è costante, poiché l’aria compressa sfugge passando sotto l’O Ring e dietro di esso.
Montando O Ring più grossi, ovvero molle più dure, l’aria che si comprime nell’intercapedine tra la guarnizione e il corpo della testa, provoca la dilatazione dell’O Ring il quale aumenta l’attrito contro la superficie interna del cilindro, co conseguenti “grippaggi” che si traducono in rottura di pistoni o sgranature.
La scelta di spostare i fori antivuoto più all’esterno, peraltro ripresa dai tempi in cui si modificavano semplicemente le teste pistone di serie dei fucili Marui, si rivela la più adeguata alle nostre esigenze, a patto che gli O Ring utilizzati siano del diametro giusto per garantire la tenuta, con la sola loro tensione elastica, rispetto al cilindro e alla sede nella testa pistone.
In questo modo, l’O Ring perde tenuta nella sola fase di aspirazione, evitando l’effetto vuoto, ma garantisce tenuta costante nella fase di compressione, senza risentire degli sbalzi di pressione che ne generano la dilatazione.

The first product to emerge from this synergy is the SniperMK antivacuum piston head.
Who own a keen eye will notice that the radial holes made on the front of the SniperMk piston head , other than the currently popular piston heads, have moved toward the outer circumference of the head itself.
The piston heads now more diffuse, have holes that serve to ensure the antivacuum effectiveness during suction, moved toward the center of the circumference.
Hundreds of tests, trials and measurements that I performed, convinced me that the choice of holes moved toward the center has led to frequent failures in the ASG, and uneven consistency in their rendering, with regard to energy measurements.
In fact, I found that on this type of head, the sealing, even when it seems best, in fact it remains not constant because the air escapes under and behind the O ring.
Fitting larger O Rings, or stronger springs, the air compressed in the gap between the seal and the body of the head, it causes the expansion of O Ring which increases the friction against the inner surface of the cylinder, and subsequent "seizure" that result in broken pistons or gears.
The decision to move the holes antivuoto more outside, also if dating back from the days when you simply modified the piston heads of Marui guns, it reveals the most appropriate to our needs, provided that the O rings used are in the correct diameter to ensure the sealing, with only their elastic tension, between the cylinder and the piston head place.
In this way, the O-ring loses seal in suction phase, avoiding the vacuum effect, but guarantees constant sealing during compression, without being affected by the pressure fluctuations that the expansion generate.

IL CILINDRO - THE CYLINDER

 

 



Sempre alla ricerca della tenuta stagna del gruppo aria, riprendendo l’idea proposta qualche decina di anni fa da una delle prime aziende italiane importatrici di ASG Marui, ormai non più sul mercato, ed ottimizzandola grazie alle tecnologie attualmente disponibili, si è scelto di produrre cilindro e teste cilindro in un corpo unico.
Lo Staff tecnico di SniperMK, forte dei macchinari ad elevata tecnologia di cui dispone, ha realizzato il componente utilizzando lega di alluminio di elevata resistenza e qualità, che garantisce leggerezza e dissipazione del calore prodotto dallo scorrimento del pistone e dalla compressione dell’aria.
Caratteristica peculiare dei cilindri SniperMK – peraltro già sperimentata con successo da G&P – è la tornitura dei cilindri con camicia tronco conica a partire dalla parte posteriore.
In sostanza, se nelle repliche più comuni, la compensazione dell’aria rispetto alla lunghezza della canna viene ottenuta mediante foratura laterale del cilindro, la tecnica utilizzata da SniperMK fa si che, almeno per i cilindri destinati a canne corte, la parte iniziale del cilindro sia conica, con il diametro maggiore sulla parte posteriore a restringere fino al diametro preciso di tenuta dell’O Ring, nella progressione in avanti.
In questo modo, l’O Ring inizia a fare tenuta gradualmente e non è soggetto ad usura o danneggiamento come può capitare nei cilindri con foratura laterale di compensazione.

Always searching for air group tightness, taking an idea proposed a few decades ago by one of the first Italian companies importing ASG Marui (no longer active on the market), and optimizing it to the currently available technologies, it has chosen to produce cylinder and cylinder heads in a single part.
SniperMK technical staff, having the strength deriving from high-tech machinery at its disposal, has created the component using high strength and quality aluminum alloy, that guarantees both lightness and dissipation of the heat produced by the piston sliding and the air compression.
A peculiar characteristic of SniperMK cylinders - already successfully tested by G & P - is the cylinder turning with a truncated cone shape starting from the back.
Basically, if in more common replicas, the air compensation factor than the length of the barrel it is obtained by drilling the side of the cylinder, the technique used by SniperMK means that, at least for the short barrels, the initial part of the cylinder it is conical with the larger diameter on the back to restrict to the precise diameter of O ring seals in the forward progression.
In this way, the O ring gradually begins to sealing, and it is not subject to wear or damage as may occur in the cylinders with side holes netting.


SPINGIPALLINO - AIR SEAL NOZZLE



 


Poiché i cilindri/testa SniperMK sono prodotti seguendo elevati standard di produzione, l’azienda ha messo in produzione spingipallini – nelle lunghezze e tipi destinati a coprire tutti i modelli di ASG – perfettamente quotati per i cilindri di propria produzione.
Tuttavia, gli spingipallino si sono rivelati compatibili con la maggior parte delle teste cilindro disponibili sul mercato, tranne che su quelle normalmente montate sulle repliche G&P, che hanno il beccuccio su cui lo spingipallino scorre di diametro inferiore rispetto a quelli più diffusi.

Since the SniperMK cylinder / head are realized by following high standards of production, the company has put into production nozzles - offering various lengths and types in order to cover all models of ASG - perfectly fitted to its production of cylinders.
However, these nozzles will proved to be compatible with most commercially available cylinder heads, except those normally mounted on the G & P replica, the nozzle on which it runs being a of a lesser diameter.

BOCCOLE - THE BUSHINGS


 
L’azienda SniperMK aveva già una produzione di boccole da sei, sette e otto millimetri, in acciaio inox e bronzo pieno ma erano caratterizzate da dimensioni – in particolare spessore del corpo – tali da rendere necessario modificarle per evitare interferenze con le parti meccaniche esterne dei Gear Box, specialmente quelli della serie Colt.
Anche il suggerimento che ho dato allo staff tecnico di SniperMK ha sortito quale risultato la produzione di tutta una nuova serie di boccole, riviste nelle quote per essere del tutto efficienti, senza modifiche, e utilizzabili sulla quasi totalità di Gear Boxes disponibili sul mercato i quali, secondo la marca, sono tutti leggermente differenti tra loro, in particolare nelle sedi che ospitano le boccole.

The company already had started the production of steel and sintered bronze bearing measuring six and seven millimeters, but those were characterized by the thickness of the body, that has made necessary to change them in order to to avoid interference with External mechanical parts of Gear Boxes, especially those of the Colt series.
Even the suggestion that I gave to the technical staff of SniperMK has had as a result the production of a whole new set of bushings, reviewed in the quoting to be fully effective without change, and used on almost all of Gear Boxes available in the market which , with the brand, they are all slightly different from each other, especially in the bushes housings.
 


IL GUIDAMOLLA REGISTRABILE - THE ADJUSTABLE SPRING GUIDE

 

 

 



E’ il componente di cui SniperMK - ed io che ho contribuito alla sua messa punto – può andare giustamente fiera.
 
Nel 2004, quando ancora esisteva il forum di AIRSOFTNEWS, pubblicai la foto di un possibile prototipo di guidamolla registrabile dall’esterno.
In pratica, quel guidamolla, come alcuni di attuale produzione, erano composti di due parti principali: un corpo centrale con filettatura M5 al suo interno ed un corpo secondario esterno, telescopico sul primo che per effetto di un grano filettato avvitato nel corpo principale e avvitato o svitato per mezzo di una chiave esagonale dall’esterno del Gear Box, consentiva di aumentare o ridurre il pre-carico della molla.
Quel guidamolla aveva, però, due difetti.
Il primo, insito nella sua struttura. Con l’avvitamento del grano, la lunghezza totale del guidamolla aumentava, con il rischio di interferire con la corsa retrograda del pistone.
Il secondo, ma non meno rilevante, il fatto che il grano, con l’utilizzo della replica, tendeva a svitarsi come conseguenza della rotazione del corpo esterno del guidamolla, trascinato dal momento torcente della molla in fase di compressione.
Infatti, forse pochi sanno che le molle, quando si comprimono, non solo aumentano di diametro per effetto della compressione delle spire ma, anche, effettuano un moto rotatorio sul loro asse longitudinale il quale si trasmette alle parti a contatto delle due estremità.
Da quel progetto, oggi riproposto da altra azienda, è stato derivato il nuovo guidamolla SniperMK il quale è composto, come si vede dalla foto, da tre parti principali:
  • il corpo centrale con filettatura all’interno, nel quale si avvita il grano filettato M5 di lunghezza tale da lasciare sufficiente spazio per l’eventuale vite di fissaggio del calcio (nella serie Colt);
  • il corpo esterno, che scorre sul corpo principale e che è più corto di questo;
  • il cappuccio di fine corsa, che impedisce al corpo esterno di sfilarsi dal corpo interno e di avere una corsa superiore a nove millimetri, per evitare l’uso improprio di questo utile accessorio.
La caratteristica saliente, però, è costituita dal perno passante in senso ortogonale, il quale scorre in una apposita asola ricavata nel corpo centrale del guidamolla.
Sul perno agisce il grano di regolazione il quale, in questo modo, non risente del momento torcente della molla in compressione.
Ma, elemento ancora più rilevante è che il guidamolla, nel suo insieme, non si allunga rimanendo sempre della stessa lunghezza totale e, quindi, non interferisce con la corsa del pistone.
SniperMK produce una serie di molle (90, 100, 110  e 120) che – 90 a parte che può essere migliorata – sono ottimi prodotti ma non del tutto fruibili con il guidamolla registrabile.
Infatti, i test che ho svolto sia con le molle SniperMK che con quelle di mia produzione a passo variabile dimostrato che la resa del guidamolla registrabile con molle a spire variabile non è ottimale.
Molto empiricamente, ho concluso che le spire più compatte delle siffatte molle si comprimono con troppa facilità all’avanzamento del guidamolla, mentre molle a passo costante rendono in maniera progressiva e costante.
 
Le nuove molle sono destinate ad ottimizzare le prestazioni del guidamolla registrabile.

It is the part of wich SniperMK - and me, having contributed to its developement - may be rightly proud.
The idea of adjustable spring guide it is not truly new.
That same company that marketed the cylinder block, it had a spring guide arranged so as to vary the preload of the spring (ie the initial load of the spring with the piston fully released).
But the operation it was complicated and required, however, the dismantling the gear box and hours of work to achieve the optimal level of energy.
In 2004, back when there was AIRSOFTNEWS forum , I published the photo of an externally adjustable spring guide, produced in limited number of copies.
In practice, this spring guide, as some others of current production, it was composed by two main parts: a central body with M5 thread inside and a secondary body outside, telescopic on the first that, with a threaded pin screwed into the main body and screwed or loosened by a wrench from outside the gear box, allowed to increase or decrease the preload of the spring.
That spring guide had, however, two defects.
The first, embedded in its structure.
With the tightening of wheat, the total length of the spring guide increased, with the risk of interfering with the backward stroke of the piston.
The second, but not least, the fact that the grain, using replica, tended to come loose as a result of rotation of the outer spring guide, driven by torque of the spring during compression.
Indeed, probably few knows that when the springs when compressed, not only increases in diameter due to compression of the coils, but also carry out a rotary motion on its longitudinal axis which is transmitted to the parties being in contact at either ends.
From that project, now repeated by another company, it was derived the new SniperMK spring guide which consists, as we see from the picture, of three main parts:
  • The central inside threaded body , in which the M5 threaded grain screws enough to leaving room for any stock screw (as in the Colt series);
  • The external body, which runs out of the main body and which is shorter than this;
  • The run limit cap, which prevents the external body from slip by the internal body and have a run longer than nine millimeters, to prevent the misuse of this useful accessory.

The salient feature, however, consists in an orthogonally passing pin, which flows into a special slot in the main body of the spring guide.
On the pin acts a regulating grain which, in this way, undisturbed by the torque of the spring in compression.
But even more important element is that the spring guide as a whole, not stretch, remaining of the same total length and therefore does not interfere with the piston stroke.
SniperMK produces a series of springs (90, 100 and 120) that - apart the 90 that can be improved - they are good products but not quite usable with adjustable spring guide.
In fact, the tests I've done both with SniperMK and my production variable pitch springs will shown that the performance of spring guide with adjustable coil springs variable is not optimal.
Very empirically, I have concluded that the more compact coils of such springs are compressed too easily by advance of the guide spring, while constant pitch spring make progressively and consistently.
So much so that they are studying specific springs, manufactured by the same spring factory that until now has produced Etabeta springs in the six existing versions, which will be marketed by the same SniperMK.

 

CONCLUSIONI - CONCLUSIONS

 


 
Nel complesso, mi sento di dire che i componenti sono frutto di anni di esperimenti e prove e che sintetizzano ciò che ritengo necessario utilizzare sulle mie ASG per ottenere risultati degni di nota e, possibilmente, definitivi.
La partnership con SniperMK vede coinvolte, oltre al sottoscritto, altre persone capaci nel settore della preparazione di ASG.
La gamma di prodotti SniperMK destinata alla ottimizzazione delle ASG non è ancora esaurita.

For the overall positive judgement, however, I would say that the parts are the result of years of experimentation and testing, and summarizing what I need to use on my ASG to achieve remarkable results, and possibly final.
The partnership with SniperMK involving, besides myself, other people are capable in the field of preparation of ASG.
The range of SniperMK products designed to optimize ASG has not been exhausted.
