Introduzione

La famiglia di pistole prodotte dalla società SIG SAUER (sino all'ottobre 2007 presente sul mercato statunitense col marchio SIGARMS) è ben presente a fianco di un elevato numero di utilizzatori professionali, militari e civili, nonché di appassionati. La casa produttrice afferma che un terzo dei poliziotti negli Stati Uniti è dotato di una sua arma.
Il primo modello della famiglia di pistole da cui deriva da P229 è stata la P220 (fusto in alluminio, carrello in lamiera d'acciaio, caricatore monofilare), adottata dalle forze armate elvetiche come P75. Ne è stata derivata la P225, una versione compatta per uso di polizia.
Dalla P220 è stata derivata la P226, con caricatore bifilare; e questa ha avuto una controparte compatta nella P228 (M11 nella codifica militare statunitense).

Introduction

The family of pistols manufactured by the company SIG SAUER (until October 2007 on the U.S. market under the trademark SIGARMS) it is on the holster of a large number of professional users, both military and civilian, as well as inside the carrying bags of many enthusiasts. Il castello è invece prodotto, come per tutte le altre armi della serie, in alluminio.
La P229 negli Stati Uniti è stata adottata quale ordinanza per gli Special Agents del Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), per l'Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), per il Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), per l'United States Secret Service (USSS), e per il Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
Fra gli altri utilizzatori, vi è l'EKAM, reparto antiterrorismo della polizia greca.

The real weapon

The semi-automatic pistol P229 has been produced to bring a weapon with compact dimensions, able to use ammunition with high power, joining the existing P228.
For this reason, its main feature it the slide, realized using CNC machines from a steel block, rather than derived from pressed steel sheet. The ammunitions for which the P229 it is produced there are 9x19 mm, 40S&W and .357 SIG.

Introduzione e produttore

Le armi di SIG SAUER sono state oggetto di numerose riproduzioni ASG, sia per la fame delle originali, sia per l'ottima organizzazione ed ergonomia che sono mantenute anche nelle repliche.
KJW è un marchio storico, i cui prodotti hanno una fama consolidata di efficienza e resistenza.
La sua ultima generazione di repliche dimostra l'impegno speso nel perfezionamento dei prodotti, mantenendo una certa loro aria particolare. Quando esamino una replica di questo produttore, la sensazione è di vedere una Tokarev Tula 33, paragonadola con una Colt 1911A1. La seconda è raffinata nel funzionamento e nelle finiture; la prima ha un aspetto più primitivo, ma entrambe funzionano perfettamente.
Devo dire che anche in questo caso, la sensazione si è rivelata esatta.
Questa particolare riproduzione è commercializzata da Cybergun (che detiene i diritti per l'utilizzo dei marchi originali).

Introduction and producer

SIG SAUER weapons have been subject to numerous ASG reproductions, both for the fame of the originals, and also for the excellent organization and ergonomics that are also maintained into the replicas.

La P229 è fornita in una confezione «standard» di polistirolo con coperchio in cartone. All'esterno, nel consueto stile Cybergun, una foto del prodotto ed una vasta serie di scritte descrittive e di specifiche (anche se spesso i dati sulle prestazioni riportati sono un po' diversi da quelli reali).

 

All'interno, oltre alla replica contenuta in una busta di nylon, vi sono l'attrezzo per il caricamento dei BB, una scatoletta di pallini, ed un succinto manuale illustrato.

The P229 comes in a "standard" polystyrene pack with cardboard lid. Outside, in the usual style Cybergun, there are a product photo, and a wide range of written descriptions and specifications (although often the performance data quoted are a bit different from the real ones).

Inside, in addition to the reproduction, contained in a nylon bag, there is the tool to load the BB, a tin of pellets, and a concise illustrated manual.

 

L'aspetto generale

La P229 mantiene l'aspetto generale un po' squadrato delle pistole che l'hanno preceduta, ed accentua questa caratteristica per il rail che è ricavato sotto il dust cover.
Gli elementi caratteristici sono presenti in modo fedele, a partire dai 10 rilievi degli intagli di presa sul carrello, ed arrivando ai tre presenti sul rail.
La costruzione è quasi interamente metallica, con parti ricavate per fusione; delle componenti maggiori, l'unica in plastica è data come nella real steel dalle guancette.
La finitura delle parti metalliche è ottenuta con uno spesso strato di vernice nera semilucida, applicata omogeneamente. Le guancette sono in materiale sintetico di colore nero lucido.
La progettazione accurata degli stampi fa in modo che l'unico segno di lavorazione visibile esternamente sia l'impronta circolare di un estrattore, sul fianco sinistro del grilletto.
Con quello che per me è lo stile KJW, la nitidezza di stampaggio è un poco opaca, senza che questo tolga nulla all'aspetto generale ed all'efficienza.
Questo modello, ho l'impressione sia pensato più per essere usato, che collezionato.

Overall appearance

The P229 retains the overall a bit squared look of all the handguns that preceded it, and the rail under the dust cover accentuates this feature.
The characteristic elements are faithfully present, from the ten serration intakes on the slide to the three on the rail.
The construction is almost entirely metal, with parts obtained by casting; the only major plastic components are the grips, as in the real steel .
The finishing of metal parts is obtained with a thick layer of gloss black paint, applied evenly. The scales are made of glossy black plastic.
Due to the careful design of the molds, the only visible sign of work outside it is the circular mark of a puller on the left side of the trigger.

 

With what for me it is the KJW style, molding sharpness it is a little dull, but this do not detract the general appearance and efficiency.
This model, in my impression, it has been thought to be used, more than collected.

La replica presenta diversi marchi. Salvo la sigla della casa produttrice KJW, stampata in rilievo sul fondello del caricatore, gli altri sono ricavati mediante incisione laser, e credo siano applicati esclusivamente alle P229 vendute col marchio Cybergun.

Le mire anteriori e posteriori
La replica è dotata di mirino anteriore a cresta, e di tacca di mira fissa posteriore. Entrambi sono fusi assieme al carrello, e non si possono regolare. Per facilitare la loro acquisizione, sono dotati di riferimenti bianchi, abbastanza efficaci in buone condizioni di luce. Le mire sono ben studiate, e offrono un buon riferimento visivo per l'allineamento.
La presenza della scina consente inoltre di affiancarvi un dispositivo ottico di mira, efficace in ogni situazione luminosa.

Front and rear sights
The replica has a blade front sight, and fixed rear sight. Both are fused together with the slide, so you could not adjust them. To facilitate their acquisition, both have white points, quite effective in good light. The sights are well designed and offer a good visual reference for alignment.
The presence of a rail also allows to install an optical device, effective in any lighting situation.

It consists of a shaped plate lever, located on the left side of the frame, in a backward position.

This lever, found on left side of the frame, will safely decock the hammer. It operates also with the GBB replication.

It is a lever on the left side of the frame, above the trigger. In closing state, it stays horizontal and backward. For the disassembly, it should be rotated clockwise 90 degrees.

The trigger, half-moon shaped, has the typical characteristics of those for weapons having single and double action. The replica one it is made of metal, with the bearing surface knurled to facilitate the taking of the fingertip.

 

cane
il cane è esterno, in metallo; la cresta è di piccole dimensioni, e ha la superficie d'appoggio zigrinata. Lo si può tenere abbattuto od in monta, mancando la posizione di mezza monta.

le guancette
Le guancette sono semi avvolgenti, coprendo i fianchi ed il dorso dell'impugnatura. Sono realizzate in plastica, con superficie irregolare per favorire la presa. Il loro aspetto è penalizzato da una finitura troppo lucida, e non ne ricavo una impressione di robustezza poiché, impugnandole con forza, le sento flettere. All'estremità inferiore delle guancette è ricavato anche il passante per il correggiolo, sulla cui resistenza nutro qualche dubbio.
Le guancette sono fissato al fusto da viti con incavo esagonale.

hammer
The hammer it is external, metal made, and the spur it is small and has a knurled bearing surface. You can hold it cocked or uncocked, in the absence of the half cocked safety position.

grip panels
The grips are half wrapping, covering the sides and the back of the butt. These are made of plastic with a textured surface to facilitate the grip. Their appearance is suffering from a glossy finish too, and I do not get an impression of strength about them, because, when grabbing I feel them flex. At the lower end of the grip there is the lanyard loop, on the strength of which I have my serious doubts.
The grip panels are fixed to the frame by hexagonal socket screws.

Il caricatore è quasi completamente costruito con metallo, secondo lo schema tradizionale di tali componenti. Il serbatoio del gas ha la valvola di rifornimento a doppia guarnizione posta nel fondello (trattenuto al corpo da due perni passanti).
L'alloggiamento per i pallini è ricavato anteriormente, bifilare, ed ospita 23 BB.
Il riempimento può avvenire tramite un attrezzo a pistone fornito in dotazione (un po' scomodo nell'uso agonistico) od inserendo ogni singolo pallino manualmente da uno slargo nella feritoia anteriore, che permette inoltre di controllare il corretto inserimento dei pallini, e la loro quantità. Questo secondo modo di rifornire è a mio avviso il più adatto nel gioco, sempre che si utilizzi uno speedloader.
L'elevatore può essere compresso manualmente.
Unico neo, a mio avviso, la testa del caricatore realizzata in plastica, e quindi soggetta a rottura per urti, od anche per il rilascio violento dell'elevatore.


the magazine
The magazine is almost completely built by metal, according to the traditional pattern of these components. The gas tank has the dual gasket supply valve in the bottom (held by two pins passing through the body).
The double stack BB housing it is in the front, wire, and houses 23 BB.
Filling this housing can be made by a tool supplied (a little 'uncomfortable in professional use) or by manually entering every single bullet in a widening of the slot front, which also lets you check the correct position of the BB, and their quantity . This second mode of supply is in my opinion the best in the game, provided you use a Speedloader.
The lift can be compressed manually.
The only drawback, in my view, it is the the head of feeder made of plastic, and therefore subject to breakage by impact, or even due to the violent release of the elevator.

organizzazione meccanica
La meccanica interna KJW è di ultima generazione, e garantisce sia funzionamento regolare, che una vigorosa sensazione di rinculo, anche se la potenza erogata è nei valori medi per la sua classe.
Outer ed inner barrel sono coassiali, ma non vincolate fra di loro; al momento del rinculo, l'outer barrel compie il movimento retrogrado, mentre l'inner barrel rimane costantemente vincolato al fusto.
L'asta guidamolla si collega all'inner barrel mediante una appendice a sezione quadrata, che la tiene costantemente allineata e ne blocca la rotazione.

mechanical organization
L'inner barrel ha una lunghezza di circa 7 centimetri, ed è innestata al gruppo hop up regolabile.
The KJW internal mechanics it belongs to the latest generation, and ensures smooth operation ias like as a strong recoil, even though the power output it is in average for its class.
Outer and inner barrel are coaxial, but not bound ttogether; upon recoil, the outer barrel completes the retrograde movement, while the inner barrel remains constantly bound to the frame.
The spring guide rod connecting the inner barrel by an appendix with a square section, which keep it permanently aligned and blocks the rotation.
The inner barrel has a length of about 7 cm, and it is engaged to the adjustable hop up.

prova pratica: il rifornimento
Il rifornimento di gas avviene in pochi secondi; grazie alla doppia guarnizione della valvola, l'unico segnale che il serbatoio è pieno si ha dal venir meno del rumore causato dal flusso.
L'utensile per il caricamento dei BB è composto da una tramoggia, sagomata per adattarsi alla testa del caricatore; da un tubo in alluminio da applicare alla tramoggia, e dentro cui inserire i pallini; da una barretta in plastica che funge da pistone e spinge i BB nel caricatore.
Il riempimento avviene abbastanza rapidamente, e senza alcun intoppo.

prova pratica: l'ergonomia ed il maneggio
L'ergonomia della P229 è ottima; ognuno dei comandi (salvo la leva di scomposizione, ovviamente) è raggiungibile senza dover modificare l'impugnatura. Un tiratore destrorso può, ruotando il pollice dall'alto, incontrare in sequenza le due leve ed il pulsante. Nel caso di persona sinistrorsa, la stessa operazione può avvenire con l'indice.
La filosofia SIG prevede che l'arma sia portata in stato di «combat readiness» in due sole condizioni, con cane armato per il tiro in singola azione, od abbattuto e tiro in doppia azione, senza alcun altro dispositivo di sicurezza manuale.
Per questa ragione, una leva provvede ad abbattere il cane e rendere l'arma sicura.
Nella KJW le cose funzionano allo stesso modo; portando verso il basso la leva, il cane si abbatte, senza che il martelletto colpisca la valvola del gas.

testing the supply
The gas supply it is a matter of seconds, thanks to the double seal valve, the only sign that the tank is full there is the ending of the of noise from the stream.
The tool for loading BB consists of a hopper, shaped to fit the head of the magazine, a tubular aluminum tube to fit to the hopper, and into which to insert the pellets, and a plastic rod that act as a piston and pushes BB into the magazine.

testing ergonomy and handling
The ergonomics of the P229 is excellent, and each command (except the disassembly latch, of course) can be reached without changing the grip. A right-handed shooter can, turning his thumb down, meet in sequence two levers and a button. In the case of left-handed person, the same thing can be done by using the index.
The SIG philosophy provides that the weapon is carried in the state of "combat readiness" in only two conditions, with hammer cocked for firing in single action, or decocked in order to shot in double action; no other manual safety device.
For this reason, it provides a decocking lever to make the weapon safe.
KJW things work in the same way: bringing down the lever, the hammer it is decocked without being hits the gas valve.

Lo scarrellamento, grazie ai generosi intagli di presa sul carrello, è una manovra facile da compiere, anche con mani guantate.
Il grilletto, in singola azione, ha una corsa complessiva di 10 millimetri. La precorsa di 5 millimetri è molto morbida, e quasi non vi è preavviso di scatto. Purtroppo, il grilletto percorre altri 5 millimetri prima di arrestarsi, con un collasso considerevole. Lo sgancio avviene alla trazione di 1,8 kg
In doppia azione, l'escursione del grilletto è di 18 millimetri, 10 dei quali di precorsa. La resistenza è progressiva, decisa, ma non raschiante. Lo sgancio avviene alla trazione di 3,8 kg.
Lo scatto riproduce bene quello di un'arma di servizio, e richiede a mio avviso parecchio allenamento per essere padroneggiato a fondo.

The racking, thanks to generous slide serrations, it is easy to do, even with gloved hands.
The trigger in single action, has a total travel of 10 mm. The pre-travel of 5 mm is very soft and almost there is no notice of shooting. Unfortunately, the trigger runs another 5 mm before stall, with a significant collapse. The the traction release it is of 1.8 kg

The triggering it is well fit to a service weapon, and I think it requires some training before being fully mastered.

Lo scarrellamento nel rinculo è veramente notevole: il carrello si muove rapidamente e vigorosamente, e rende quasi obbligatoria l'impugnatura a due mani, specie nel tiro rapido.
Il gas, nelle prove da me effettuate con temperature primaverili, si esaurisce dopo aver tirato un paio di caricatori di pallini; un buon risultato, specie in relazione all'energia utilizzata per il forte rinculo. L'esaurimento del serbatoio è preceduto da uno o due tiri «fiacchi».
Il caricatore si inserisce e toglie fluidamente, ed una volta posto nel suo alloggiamento «balla» un poco. Questo non mi pare abbia influito sul corretto funzionamento della replica; non ho avuto alcun problema di alimentazione, anche utilizzando pallini biologici.

The slide backtravel during recoil it is remarkable: the slide moves quickly and vigorously, and this makes almost mandatory a two-handed grip, especially in rapid fire.
The gas, in the tests I made with spring temperatures, exhausted after pulling a couple of magazines of ammunition, a good result, especially in relation to the energy used to recoil. The depletion of the gas tank it is preceded by one or two "weak" shots.
The magazine it is inserted and removed smoothly, and once put into place I felt it "dancing" a little. This does not seem to have affected the proper functioning of the reply; I had no supplying problem, even using bio pellets.

prova pratica: la precisione
La migliore rosata che sono riuscito ad ottenere da questa replica non è esaltante: col bersaglio a 4 metri ed usando pallini da 0,20, l'area di impatto si è sparsa su 5 centimetri verticali e 3,5 orizzontali.
Trovo questo congruo tanto per le caratteristiche d'uso che per quelle tecniche di questa replica.
La canna corta e lo scatto poco amichevole hanno un peso preponderante, e non credo che delle modifiche o delle parti custom possano cambiare di molto le cose, o che la loro installazione sia giustificata.

testing the consistenze
The best shot vconcentration that I managed to get from this replica it is not exciting: with the target to 4 meters and using 0.20 pellets, the area of impact is spread over a 5 cm vertical and a 3.5 cm horizontal.
I find this reasonable if reported to the characteristics and use of this reproduction.
The short barrel and unfriendly triggering could have a significant weight about it, and I do not think that modifications or custom parts can significantly change the things.

Non ritengo che la P229 KJW necessiti di particolari customizzazioni, se impiegata nel ruolo per cui è stata pensata; la presenza del rail anteriore permette di installare eventualmente un dispositivo puntatore al laser, un supporto per red dot, od una torcia tattica. Ho voluto provare a montare quest'ultimo accessorio, impiegando il modello della SWISS ARMS. L'inserimento avviene di misura, e forzando un pochino; e una volta trattenuta dal fermo, la torcia diventa quasi un corpo unico con la replica.
L'unica dotazione utile nel gioco possono essere un paio di caricatori di scorta, e l'upgrade da considerare è eventualmente la sostituzione delle guancette con altre di miglior materiale, magari prodotte per la real steel, come le Hogue.

I do not think that the KJW P229 requires special customization, when used in the role for which it was conceived. The presence of the front rail allows you to install any device, as like as a laser pointer, a red dot support, or a tactical flashlight. I tried to mount this last accessory, using the SWISS ARMS model. The insertion it is measured, and need a little forcing, and once retained, the torch becomes almost a single body with the GBB.
The only equipment useful in the game may be a couple of spare magazines, and upgrade to consider is possibly replacing the grips with others made from best material, possibly suited for real steel, such as Hogue models.

Considerazioni finali

Questa replica si mantiene fedele alla tradizione KJW, dimostrandosi affidabile e robusta; e mostra anche l'innovazione, con prestazioni e rinculo degni di nota.
Il suo impiego in ambito sportivo è ovviamente sui campi di airsoft: compatta e sicura, è il vero backup, pronto a togliere d'impiccio chi si ritrova con la batteria scarica o il caricatore vuoto nel bel mezzo di un ingaggio.
La precisione è sufficiente ed abbondante per le distanze a cui a mio avviso s'impiega una back up, pari al massimo ad una ventina di metri; il ciclo veloce di funzionamento consente di eseguire taps di due o tre pallini.
Per ricavare il molto che questa riproduzione può dare, occorre però allenarsi, ed imparare a conoscerla. Lo scatto, morbido e lungo, deve essere controllato, e non strizzato.
Detto questo, trovo la P229 KJW molto divertente anche nel plinking occasionale, sia dentro che fuori le mura domestiche; la sensazione nell'uso è decisamente accativante.
Sotto il profilo collezionistico, con qualche pesantezza nelle finiture ed imprecisione nei marchi, la replica in collezione ci sta, e molto bene.
Aggiungo una ulteriore possibilità d'uso (ed è la prima volta, in questa mia piccola serie di recensioni): l'addestramento professionale.

Replicando fedelmente l'arma vera per modo di scomposizione, funzionamento dei comandi, e credo pure per caratteristiche dello scatto, e nel contempo offrendo un rinculo vigoroso, la P229 è un'ottimo strumento didattico.
E qui non intendo tanto per il tiro di precisione, quanto per il maneggio operativo; un operatore professionale sa quanto valga il potersi concentrare sulla situazione, specie sotto lo stress di una risposta difensiva, padroneggiando l'uso dell'arma. Considerazioni queste, che esulano dal mondo dell'airsoft e del gioco per adulti, ma a cui parecchie case produttrici sono giunte o stanno arrivando.

Tirando le somme, la CYBERGUN KJW P229 è una più che valida replica: piacevole da vedere, piacevole da usare.

The accuracy is sufficient and abundant to the distances to which I believe a backup must be shooted, that up to twenty meters; the quick cycle of operation allows to run easily taps of two or three shots.
To get the very much that this reproduction can give, it is needed a little training, and learning to use the soft and long trigger, that must be controlled, and not squeezed.
That said, I find that KJW P229 it is very funny even for occasional plinking, both inside and outside the home; the feeling is definitely strikingly.
In terms of collectors, apart of some heavy finishes and imprecision in the markings, the replica may have a place in a the collection, and stay there very well.
I will add a further possibility of use (and is the first time in my little series of reviews): the professional training.

Faithfully replicating the real weapon in breakdown, operational devices, and I think also for the characteristics of the shot, while providing a lower recoil force, the P229 is an excellent teaching tool.
And here I do not mean mainly for target shooting, but for handling operations. A professional knows what is worth to concentrate on the situation and environement of a conflict, especially under the stress of a defensive response, mastering the use of the weapon. These considerations, beyond the world dell'airsoft and gaming for adults, has been reached from several manufacturers.

Summing up, the CYBERGUN KJW P229 is a more than valid reproduction, nice to see, fun to use, thruthful on the field of game.
