La torcia è dotata di 2 leve rivestite in gomma e impermeabili, protette da un supporto di plastica contro gli urti, che riporta inoltre i simboli di riconoscimento delle varie funzioni.
Al centro troviamo il grosso tasto in gomma rilevata e zigrinata, con il quale è possibile selezionare le potenze di output dei led bianchi e blu.
Accendendo la torcia per la prima volta questa sarà impostata in modalità “bassa potenza” e spingendo il pulsante centrala avremo “bassa potenza->media potenza->alta potenza->bassa potenza…” con cambiamento ad ogni click.

 Features and working

The HL1 has 3 white leds, 2 blue leds and 1 flashing IR led. Above we've done a summerizing table about the selectionable output powers (in Lumens unit of measure) and their runtime (in hour “h” unit of measure) with a CR123A, using Surefire informations.

The light has two waterproof rubber coated levers, protected by a plastic support against hurts which have functioning symbols embossed on it.
In the middle there is the big button milled rubber coated you can use to select the output power for white and blue leds.
Starting the light for the first time, it will be setted to the lowest output power and pushing the rubber button you will have the sequence “low power->medium power->high power->low power...” with a change each click.

 Spostando la leva superiore verso il basso si accendono i due led blu (Night Vision Friendly Color). Anche qui abbiamo due simboli triangolari ad indicare i due led di funzionamento e quindi i due punti luce.

 La leva superiore in posizione centrale (neutra) spegne entrambi i sistemi d’illuminazione. Di ausilio a questo sistema vi è una “sicura” che isola la batteria dalla torcia.

 The upper lever setted in middle position switch off both the lighting systems. To help this way there is a safety system that close off the battery from electical contacts.

This is very useful in the use in “opertive zone” when your attentions are to other than this “little” things. During our tests, without night vision device, we have forgotten to use the safety system and we unintentionally switch on the IR led flashing that emptied the battery (the IR led in the daylight is almost invisible: you can see only a extremely little red light and only if you are very close to it).
The safety system is also useful against unintentionally switching on the light in action; we would like to underline that when you close off the battery through this system, when you re-engage it the output power will be re-setted to the minimum power. This doesen't happen if you switch off the light only through the upper lever: when you will re-switch on the light, it will be setted to the last output setting.

 The HL1 born with its M.I.C.H. (Modular Integrated Comunications Helmet) Helmet support.

The support has a “U” female guide to attach the lihgt and, to the right in picture above, a big nonskid level to detach the HL1.

Si tratta, di sicuro, di un accessorio molto affascinante e tatticamente interessante.
Durante le nostre prove è stata duramente “maltrattata”, letteralmente dimentichi della torcia sull’elmetto che ha sopportato acqua, sole, sabbia, vento e urti.
La HL1, dopo le dure prove, non ha accusato il minimo malfunzionamento o danneggiamento, né funzionale né estetico.

La “quantità” di luce emessa è realmente notevole per una torcia di queste dimensioni, in grado di far perlustrare visivamente all’operatore una stanza di 6m x 6m da un angolo all’altro.

Molto interessanti i led blu “night vision friendly color” che permettono di leggere mappe e documenti al livello minore di output, con un dispendio energetico minimo e senza compromettere eccessivamente la visione notturna.
Il led infrared (IFF) è sicuramente la punta di diamante del fascino di questa torcia che la rende realmente unica nel suo genere.

E’ da segnalare che il supporto in dotazione nasce per l’aggancio ad elemetti M.I.C.H., che hanno uno spessore non indifferente, difatti, durante le nostre prove abbiamo incontrato non pochi problemi ad assicurarlo all’elmetto ProTec nelle foto (di spessore sicuramente molto inferiore) da questo l’esigenza di assicurare la torcia con una fascetta (che però reputiamo non abbia dovuto svolgere la propria funzione di sicura nelle nostre prove).
Inoltre il montare la HL1 su un elmetto “alto” come un ProTec privo delle protezioni per le orecchie porta a non poter utilizzare eventuali Goggles sopra l’elmetto perché l’elastico di ritenzione passerebbe proprio sopra la torcia, inoltre, la torcia non risulterebbe perfettamente allineata con la vista da vicino (per es. lettura di cartine).

L’azionamento delle leve è agevole anche con i guanti una volta che si sia presa confidenza con i comandi.

In definitiva si tratta di un accessorio di alto livello tecnico e di sicuro impatto visivo vista la linea accattivante senza però trascurare l’affidabilità e concretezza della marca leader nel settore dell’illuminazione tattica “SUREFIRE”.

 CONCLUSION

The HL1 is for sure a fashinating and tactical accessory at the same time.
During our tests we have harshly maltreated it, dismissed from the mind on our helmet, supporting water, sun, wind, sand and hurts.

After these hard tests, the HL1 had no functional or aesthetic problems or damages.

The lighting output is very high for a light of this dimensions and you can search in a room of 6 x 6 m. to one corner to the opposite one.

The blue leds “night vision friendly color” are very interesting and you can use them to read a map without have night vision adaptation problems.

The IR led (IFF) is for sure the “diamond point” of the HL1 appeal that makes it unique in this kind of light.

We would underline that the helmet support is made for M.I.C.H. Helmet which have big thickness and during our tests we had some troubles to attach it to a ProTec helmet, more thin, so we decided to fix it with a electical tie (but we think it was only a “safety plus”).

Besides, mounting that support on a “low profile” helmet without hears protections, will not allow to right set the retension strap of goggles because it will lay on the HL1 and the light will be not well aligned with eyes sight, especially reading a map near your face.

Operate on the levers is easy also with glove fitted but you have to do a little practice.

In the end, we can say HL1-A-TN is a very high technical accessory with an engaging shape without leave aside the reliability and concreteness typical of Surefire, leader in the tactical lighting.
