STTI (Wa Shan Full Metal M1934): small and tough (if it worked ...)

Qua le cose devo scriverle in due modi diversi, con la testa, e col cuore.
Con la testa, perché quando si parla della riproduzione di un'arma prodotta per mezzo secolo ed in oltre un milione d’esemplari, (per l'esattezza, un milione ed ottantamila) senza aver conosciuti particolari evoluzioni, si è consci di trattare qualcosa d’importante, e che ha scritto un pezzo di storia.
Col cuore, perché quella storia è la nostra, e l’hanno fatta i nostri padri, nei giorni delle grandi tragedie, delle speranze, dei piccoli fatti per cui l'Italia è passata nel secolo scorso.

E allora cominciamo col cervello.

Here I have to write the things in two different ways, with mind and heart.
With mind, because when it comes to talk about the replica of a weapon produced for half a century a and in more than a million copies (to be exact, one million and eighty thousand) without known specific developments, you are conscious of dealing something of important, and that wrote a piece of history.
With heart, because that this history it is our story, made by our fathers in the days of the great tragedies, hopes, small events for which Italy has risen in the last century.

La Fabbrica d'Armi Beretta è probabilmente la più antica azienda del settore oggi operante; forte di una meritata fama nel campo delle armi civili e da caccia a canna liscia, nel periodo a cavallo fra il XIX ed il XX secolo non si era lanciata nell'avventura delle armi militari.
Fu lo scoppio della prima guerra mondiale ad indurre l'azienda gardonese ad intraprendere lo sviluppo e la produzione di una pistola a chiusura labile, punto di partenza per una serie di modelli progressivamente evolventesi, senza rinunciare alla semplicità del disegno iniziale, e mantenendo sempre quale calibro primario il 7,65 mm.

The Fabbrica d'Armi Beretta is probably the oldest company in the industry now still operating. Negli anni trenta del secolo scorso, le forze armate italiane intrapresero una profonda opera di rinnovamento dell'organizzazione e dei materiali, e questo valse specialmente per il Regio Esercito.
Nel campo delle pistole militari (e quindi sia per le forze armate che per quelle di polizia), a parte il vecchio revolver modello 1889 (che pure sarebbe stato impiegato anche nella seconda guerra mondiale), non esisteva un vero e proprio modello d'ordinanza.

Dopo una serie di prove, che fra l'altro interessarono la Walther PP, si scelse un modello d’arma Beretta progettato da Tullio Marengoni, il modello 34, derivato con pochissime modifiche dal precedente modello 32.
La nuova pistola era "militare", in quanto semplice, rustica, di sicuro funzionamento, e tuttavia, per ragioni non solo economiche, aveva piccole dimensioni ed utilizzava un calibro di potenza relativamente ridotta, il 9 mm corto, in controtendenza rispetto alla maggior parte delle ordinanze allora in servizio.

Fu prodotta in tre varianti principali: la “34” in calibro 9 corto, la “35” in calibro 7,65 mm utilizzata soprattutto dall'Aeronautica e dalla Marina, e la “37” per il mercato civile.
Nel corso delle guerre d’Etiopia e di Spagna, e della seconda guerra mondiale, la 34 e le sue sorelle fornirono un'ottima prova; e ne testimonia che sia da parte tedesca, che fra le file alleate, erano molto ricercate. Anzi, i soldati statunitensi le soprannominarono "mighty mite", piccole e toste, e spesso le trattenevano come bottino, per poi continuare ad usarle nella vita civile.
La 34, nel corso della seconda guerra mondiale, fu prodotta sia per l'Italia, che per la Romania e Germania.

Terminato il conflitto, la semiautomatica continuò ad essere impiegata dalle forze armate e di polizia italiane, terminando il suo servizio solo quando a sostituirla giunsero, in piccola misura, la Beretta 51, e definitivamente le Beretta 92 ed 84.

Tecnicamente, la pistola semiautomatica modello 34 è un'arma con chiusura labile, con canna fissa ed otturatore rinculante, a singola azione.
Il carrello presenta nella parte superiore una prolungata apertura, divenuta una caratteristica delle armi Beretta sino al modello 8000.
Un'unica leva serve da sicurezza manuale e da fermo del carrello in apertura per lo smontaggio; l'avviso d’arma scarica avviene mediante l'elevatore, che esauriti i proiettili, alzandosi sporge e contrasta il ritorno in avanti dell'otturatore.
Lo smontaggio è veramente semplice: lo vedremo più avanti, parlando della replica.
Il caricatore, trattenuto da un fermo posto alla base del calcio, ha la capacità di sette colpi in calibro 9 corto, ed otto in calibro 7,65; date le ridotte dimensioni del calcio stesso, il fondello del caricatore ha uno sprone che prolunga e favorisce l'impugnatura.

Fin qui le stringate note tecniche. Poi c'è il resto. Sono righe scritte da un mio personalissimo punto di vista… che volendo si possono saltare senza perdere nulla d’essenziale sulla replica cinese, perché vi si parla di Patria, sentimenti e ricordi.

Molte nazioni hanno delle "armi simbolo": è il caso dello STEN inglese nella seconda guerra mondiale, della triade tedesca Luger, Mauser Walther nella seconda, o dell'AK 47 sovietico nel dopoguerra.
Per noi italiani, secondo me il '91 è il fucile della Grande Guerra, la Beretta il simbolo per la prima parte della seconda guerra mondiale, ed il MAB è associato agli anni della guerra civile.

Restiamo solo nel campo dell'immaginario cinematografico: come non pensare alle Beretta di Alberto Sordi nei film I due nemici, e Tutti a Casa... o a Mediterraneo di Gabriele Salvatores... ma anche alle armi dei marescialli dei Carabinieri o della Guardia di Finanza impersonati sul piccolo e grande schermo da Vittorio De Sica, Aldo Fabrizi, Turi Ferro, e via dicendo.
Questa piccola semiautomatica è stata in Grecia, come in Africa o in Russia... qualcosa che parla ai ricordi di parecchie generazioni.
Di storie, quante ne avrebbe da raccontare?

So much for the short technical notes. Then there's the remaining.

Tutti a casa (1960)..., or Mediterraneo, by Gabriele Salvatores... but also to those weapons carried on the big and small screen by Vittorio De Sica, Aldo Fabrizi, Turi Ferro, and so on.
This small semi-automatic it was in Greece, as in Africa or in Russia ... something that speaks to the memories of several generations.
Stories, how many it would have to tell us?

 

E veniamo alla replica, partendo dalla consueta confusione sul suo produttore effettivo.
Dunque, il modello da me acquistato è commercializzato dalla STTI, e reca come marchio di produzione la sigla FS; ma altri commercianti indicano il produttore nella società Wa Shan, di cui, almeno su internet, non ho trovato alcuna traccia.

Scopro la replica proposta su un sito boemo… e col traduttore automatico ne capisco un quarto della descrizione… ma mi basta.
La Western Arms a suo tempo ha realizzato una serie di riproduzioni di quest’arma, quasi tutte ormai esaurite, e per caso credo di essere capitato nell’unico sito europeo che proponga qualcosa di simile.
L’ordinazione è un po’ avventurosa, ma alla fine mi arriva il pacchetto postale.
Sorpresa: la scatola ha un aspetto giocattoloso che più non si può; francamente, la peggiore che sino ad ora mi sia capitata fra le mani.

Un elenco d’imprecazioni per la quasi inevitabile fregatura, che cresce quando trovo una confezione di plastica iniettata, anziché nel classico polistirolo sagomato. Mi sembra proprio un balocco da pochi centesimi.

Un’occhiata alle istruzioni, frettolosa, perché in realtà consiste di un esploso del modello e nella guida alla scomposizione, e quindi, mano alla replica… che è interamente in metallo.

Accidenti, le quotazioni di questa Wa Shan iniziano a risalire.
A parte le guancette, col logo Beretta sostituito da un simbolo di fantasia (tre fucili in fascio, e le iniziali JS), e qualche minuteria interna, ogni parte è di discreta lega metallica.
La finitura generale è buona, anche se in alcuni punti si notano le sbavature di giunzione degli stampi, e sulla parte anteriore sinistra del carrello c’è un ritiro evidente.

La replica è verniciata abbastanza grossolanamente in nero opaco; ne ha un aspetto non sgradevole, ma certamente migliorabile.
Ad essere fuori luogo sono le scritte incise sul carrello: a sinistra “made in Taiwan” e a destra “ FS-0623”, entrambe in caratteri enormi.

Meglio il niente, a questo punto.
Come dimensioni, ci siamo.
Alla bilancia, questa cinesina fa segnare 586 grammi, 117 dei quali di caricatore. Un etto in meno della “cosa vera”, e non è male.

I comandi della “34” sono veramente pochi: grilletto, cane, leva di sicurezza e smontaggio, e fermo del caricatore. La replica li ha tutti, e funzionanti correttamente; potrebbe servire per l’addestramento all’uso della sorella maggiore.

Il mirino anteriore è stampato assieme al carrello, la tacca posteriore è un pezzo separato, in plastica, e si unisce al dorso del castello mediante un incastro a coda di rondine.

The front sight it is moulded along with the slide, rear sight instead it is a separate plastic piece, placed by a dovetail joint.

Provo lo smontaggio.
Impugno la replica con la mano destra, e mentre col pollice sinistro spingo all’indietro il suo fermo, facendo forza verso il basso sullo sprone del caricatore con l’indice, lo faccio scorrere di poco. Lo afferro, e lo estraggo completamente.

La scomposizione è finita, allo stesso modo dell’originale.

Il caricatore è realizzato in metallo, escluse solo le guarnizioni!
Mi sembra fra i più robusti che abbia visto sinora.
L’organizzazione è classica, col serbatoio del gas, le valvole d’entrata ed uscita, ed il caricatore capace in teoria di 25 pallini.

The magazine, apart the seals, it is only made of metal!It seems to me amid the stronger I have ever seen.
It bears a classical structure, with gas tank, filling and outlet valves, and a BB magazine theorically capable to hold 25 BB.

Passo al carrello: il gruppo gas è un solido blocco di metallo, entro cui scorre il pistone in plastica nera del rinculo.

Provo a caricare con green gas: ma questo è il vero problema.

Questa ASG è stata pensata per un particolare serbatoio esterno di gas, che riempie il caricatore, e utilizzare le classiche bombole è quasi impossibile.
Con molte perdite si riesce ad immettere al massimo il gas sufficiente a tre o quattro pallini.
Il serbatoio in questione sembra sia irreperibile in commercio.

A parte questo, la Beretta s’impugna bene, nonostante le piccole dimensioni, ma paga pegno per la linea di mira corta; in ogni caso, a mio avviso le mire sono acquisibili meglio che non nella poderosa Mauser o nella Luger.

I pallini arrivano regolarmente in canna, quando l’energia del gas è sufficiente.
Il meccanismo a singola azione è reso bene. La corsa del grilletto non è filante, ma breve (4 millimetri), e senza precorsa; la trazione si attesta sui due chilogrammi.
Lo scarrellamento è metallico, non velocissimo, anche dopo una vigorosa dose di lubrificante. Non ricorda il colpo secco dell’originale.

La potenza si attesta attorno ai 70 metri il secondo, forse meno; più che sufficienti, in questo particolare caso.

Ora, è il momento di tirare le somme.

Questa ASG può interessare solo il collezionista od il reenactor, quando abbia l’occasione di trovarla in commercio, e non possa invece mettere le mani su una bella Western Arms.
In definitiva… una replica inconsueta, ma non proprio perfetta, il cui voto, per me, si attesta fra il 3 ed il 5 su 10, con un bel 9 assegnato per ragioni sentimentali alla scelta inconsueta di questa sconosciuta ditta cinese.

This ASG may only affect the reenactor or the collector, when he has the chance to find it on the market, and can not instead catch a beautiful Western Arms.In short ... an unusual replica, but not quite perfect, whose vote for me, stood between 3 and 5 to 10, with a nice 9 allocated for sentimental reasons to the unusual choice of this unknown Chinese firm.

Addenda

Quando queste righe erano state stese, ho scoperto che questa replica, col marchio LS, è stata importata anche in Italia da un e-shop. La confezione è completa del famoso adattatore, che consente il caricamento con bombolette di CO2, e quindi in teoria un regolare funzionamento.

When I have ended these lines, I discovered that an Italian e-shop will import this replica with LS brand, and also with the famous gas adapter, allowing to load also with CO2 cartridges. This theorically may grant a smooth operating of this Beretta.
